Hi there, I'm putting an Interstate trunk on my standard, what is the normal  light setup on the trunk, ie, all 4 are running lights , or two brake, two running.

Thanks.

You know, I don't really know. I never pay any attention to any IS in front of me, and can't see my own. But I believe they are running and brake lights only.

This is interesting for you if you wish to modify them.

The answer is...it varies.  2funny

One of mine (my original I/S) was set up with a custom controller I designed. All four were running lights, the outer two were brake and turn signals (though the flashing one would not act as a brake light) and the inner two were also brake lights. Additionally, that bike sported a fender-mounted OEM taillight.

In a savage act of pilfery, my current ('01) I/S lost its trunk to my '99 Tourer. The outside lights were set up as brake lights.

I've another trunk in pieces for my I/S. When it goes together and is mounted I'm not sure what I'll do with the lights. There's a Badlands R-S-T module hooked into the I/S' rear lighting system at present so I'll do a little puzzling with regards to setup. Maybe make the outer two into R-S-T lighting and leave the inners as running.

You can mod them and rewire them so all 4 are running lights and brake lights if you change out the standard bulbs & sockets for LED pucks.
See Steel Cowboy's write up.  His picture links don't work anymore but his writeup is still good.

BonS did the L E D mod to my I/S and he even toned them down! They are STILL bright nuff to catch most-but by no means All-dufus cager types following too danged close-attention providing they ain't in a coma or brain dead!  Lips Sealed I am pleased with the mod BonS did on the lights. I have had a Lot of GOOD feed back when doing P G R missions. I have No Idea at ALL if BonS is still doing any of the work his website offers. I also have a pure dee as bone stock standard/tour tail light assembly installed and working in the proper location on my I State. Too be polite-compared to the L E D light setup that tail light looks rather-anemic.  Undecided RIDE SAFE.
