I've had a colonoscopy done  numerous times while I was in the military. Nothing too it. You only feel it when they turn each corner Grin
I recall one colonoscopy didn't go too well. They couldn't get the scope all the way in. Doc said I was full of sh*t 2funny I guess the prep didn't do its job.
They really push the Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) which detects blood in your stool when you hit 50 years of age up here.

Everyone should do the FIT.

Thanks for remembering him!  It came up in my FB memory today too, and I chose not to share it.
Still miss him everyday, and I cherish the memories of all the VRCC trips we took together!

I had my first colon check up when I turned 60, Doc said I didn't need another one for 10 years.  Really disliked the prep.  Had the test done out of town, stayed over night in Motel room, really fun.

The last two years (now that I  am passed the 10 year mark), the Doc's have been having me do the Stool swipe test.   Just dig in and sent the sample to the lab.  Sure is a lot more fun (sac) than the other choice.

Hey guys, it easy, doesn't cost a much, and no evasive.

One of my best buds had his done on Tuesday. I have to check with the boss to see when my next one is due. The last trip resulted in the removal of a few polyps, a first for me.

The prep is the most difficult part. I did the sedation this time. Woke up and got up. Wife took me to breakfast.
A few restrictions for today , but that's all.

Serk,  why the need to get it done in 3 more years?  I thought the normal time to do it was age 50 or has that changed or is it due to family genetics?  I thought you were younger than age 47 now?   Even at age 45 or so, does not hurt to get er' dun.....

Yup, 50 is the recommended age to start, and I'll be that age in 3 more years...

Kinda scary, I've been in the VRCC since I was in my 20's, and now I'm 3 years away from being 50...

The ACS Guideline for Colorectal Cancer Screening.

Age 50 was the old starting age, That's changed to age 45 for some people.

Researchers from Japan’s National Cancer Center in Tokyo have found that an increased intake of magnesium reduces a man’s risk of colon cancer by over 50 percent. Men with the highest average intakes of magnesium (at least 327 mg/d) were associated with a 52 percent lower risk of colon cancer, compared to men who consumed the lowest average intakes. Published in the Journal of Nutrition,[2] the research studied 87,117 people with an average age of 57 and followed them for about eight years.

My wife has had me take Magnesium for years she read one report that taking Magnesium can give you a better chance of recitation after a heart attach.  Not sure if it is true but take it anyway.  She ended up with an issue with Afib and they recommended she take it so we both take it now.

On Colonoscopies, had mine this year again, at age 61 and I'm not scheduled back for 10 years.  That seems like a long time between tests for such a series issue.

The list of benefits from magnesium is long (esp heart), and side effects.downside almost nil.

The big 500s will give me stomach upset on empty stomach.  I think 250s are all you need, but they were out.  Some pills cut in half easy, others shatter all over the bathroom.

depends on the formulation. there are many types of magnesium some better than others.

one way is magnesium oil. not for ingestion but applied to skin or epson salt soaks, the skin sucks it rigth up.

We take Nature Made 250mg Magnesium that we get at Walmart.  Pretty cheap supplement.  Says it helps support Nerve, Muscle & Heart function.

what type is it? might be very poorly absorbed type.

I don’t understand the push for magnesium!

The list of benefits from magnesium is long (esp heart), and side effects.downside almost nil.
I saw many sources saying things like this and decided “what the heck, I’ll try it”.  That was a huge mistake!   tickedoff  First day was not too bad, second day I almost died!  I got severe muscle cramps!  I had cramps all over.......you know the heart is a muscle and cramps in the heart muscle are not good for healthy living.   uglystupid2  I also got a severe cramp in my left shoulder that took a couple of days to relax.....and that was even with taking medicine and using creams to relax it.  That shoulder cramp pinched the nerve bundle from my left hand and now my thumb and 2 fingers on my left hand are permanently numb because the nerve died.

I am going to make a suggestion here.  It just might be wise to talk with your doctor and look at lab results before starting any metalic supplements.  Potassium and magnesium are both very serious players in nerve health.  Please be careful.

Jerry, yours is the only adverse story on magnesium I ever heard.  Not that I've looked.

I cannot agree more on talking with a doctor (if you have one).

sounds like u had an imbalance of potassium, sodium and calcium, or dehydration. too much magnesium does cause loose stools causing more fluid into the bowls, hence dehydration.  if u drink coffee, it depletes the body of all of those minerals.

If you experience muscle pain and fatigue while taking magnesium, it could be that you are not taking enough. The amount you will need in a day depends on your gender, as well as other factors, which your doctor can help you determine. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, the recommended dietary allowance or RDA of magnesium for most healthy women is 280 to 300 mg, while it is 270 to 400 mg for men. If you take less than this, you may experience symptoms of a magnesium deficiency, which include anxiety, agitation, insomnia, stomach upset, low blood pressure, confusion and hyperventilation. You may also experience muscle weakness and twitching, and if the deficiency becomes severe, continuous muscle contractions.

nerve health? potassium yes, that's why over the counter is limited to 99 mg.  just eating potassium rich foods one could never OD on it. recent RDA is 4700mg /day for men. a banana is about 250mg. best to just eat the foods and avoid the pills unless and only under a medical professional.

nerve health? magnesium, very low levels in the cells and not talking about the blood level, two different things causes nerve problems.  high levels do not cause any damage to nerves. excess is just excreted.

Bigwolf go have a NCS ( erve conduction  study) done on that arm/hand. That is a classic symptom of CTS (Carpal Tunnel Syndrome) if it turns out to be CTS it is an easy fix. I had a numb thumb, index and long finer on my right hand for a couple of years. I knew what it was but didnt want to be cut. Eventually I got tired of it and had a CTS release. I waited so long it took about 9 months for the feeling to come back but it did and am glad I had it done. 5 minute surgery had it done with a block and took zero pain meds.

Thanks for the heads up  cooldude

nerve health? potassium yes, that's why over the counter is limited to 99 mg.  just eating potassium rich foods one could never OD on it. recent RDA is 4700mg /day for men. a banana is about 250mg. best to just eat the foods and avoid the pills unless and only under a medical professional.

nerve health? magnesium, very low levels in the cells and not talking about the blood level, two different things causes nerve problems.  high levels do not cause any damage to nerves. excess is just excreted.

Folks,
I am just sharing my experience.  Whether or not you choose to value that information is up to you and none of my concern.

Jerry, I appreciate the info. It’s this kind of stuff that hopefully just stuck in the recesses of what’s left of my pea brain, to help me or a family member  cooldude

Rob,
I hope to one day to have the opportunity to share some conversation with you without having to rush on.  We seem to be opposed on many things political but as you once said, “we might have more in common than seems obvious”.  I believe that is probably very true.

That sounds great Jerry. I’m still clinging to a little hope that I can at least make a couple days in Taos.  cooldude
