Well I just get my back fixed up and now I have a kidney stone. The doctor recommended that I not get on my bike go to InZane. He has to go in and blast it and said I won't be on the bike for a month. I asked if it could wait until I got back but he said if it starts to pass I would most likely end up in the emergency room. So I have to cancel my plans for InZane. That just sucks and I'm very disappointed to say the least.

That does suck Dave. I don’t know when the blasting is scheduled. But Brenda has had several, she is usually good to go after a couple days.

Sounds like he's giving you a worst case scenario.  Most people feel ok after a day or two... sometimes a week.  Rarely would lithotripsy require a month to recover.

Unfortunately Connie I have another issue that has to be taken care of. He asked me if I rode horses or a motorcycles. I told him I have been on bikes for 50 years. He could tell because I have some kind of scare tissue from sitting on one for so long. He said that it needs to be cleaned up as well. I told him I have an Air hawk on my seat for about a year. He said I should have been on one for the last 10 years. Anyway that's why he said I have to wait a month for that to heal.

If he is doing more than a stone I would question Why ? Is what he is talking about causing you problems? probably not. So do you what you must but sounds fishy to my 35 yrs of medical experience. Just sayin

You are getting pretty experienced at this surgery stuff Dave. Hang in there. You'll be back riding in no time.  cooldude

Dave, it sounds like a case of "while we have you up on the lift". I can understand the Dr not wanting to put you under a second time when he can take care of another concern at the same time. Good luck and let's celebrate your recovery with a long ride.

I believe your right George. I went to the dentist last week because I had a tooth that was very sensitive to cold. After Xrays he said I have a cavity. But when he took a closer look at the tooth he could see it was cracked. He said he could fill the cavity but I would be back to have a crown put on. So we just went ahead and did the crown. He showed me pictures of the crack as well. I've been going to this dentist for over 30 years so I trust his judgement. So there goes another $1100.00 since I no longer have dental insurance.

Sorry to hear about your stone Dave, this getting old with ailments stuff just ain't fair.

Hope all goes smoothly for you either way.

Unfortunately I won't be making IZ-19 either, my son flies in on the 4th and we hit the road in the FJ to do some camping and general road tripping on a yet-to-be-determined route back to Charleston. Original plan was via much of the route the recent tornadoes and floods have taken (hence the now yet TBD route).  Undecided

For those making the IZ trip, watch the roads out here in northern NM, this past winter has been brutal tearing many a new one (potholes, chunks, loose asphalt). They have been servicing much of it but I'm sure there's still plenty needing attention, especially some of the otherwise nice back roads. Due to the late snow we've been having I'm sure it's been tough to keep up with the repairs. Ride safe, Oh yes and bid high and bid often on that coconut cream (or meringue) pie. Just in case, Michael's Kitchen or Cafe there in Taos use to have decent pie by the slice and whole as well as an array of other baked goods. The food is only fair but the baked stuff weren't bad. I think the 3 of us stopped in for breakfast there before hitting the Rio Grande Gorge, Dave & John.

Have a safe and fun trip Gary. Yes I remember that stop for breakfast. Beautiful country to be sure. Man I'm going to really miss that ride and all the good friends.

I was hoping to have you for a tour guide, but time with you son is important.  I have one son close by so we hook up pretty regularly.  Sure had a good time when we were hanging out at your place.  Michael K. was with us too.  I remember putting a car tire on his bike.   Enjoy your camping trip across the states

I'm sorry I will miss catching up with you guys as well not to mention a back yard local InZane.  Embarrassed

I did just add to Josh's post on the General Board about some general local touring suggestions to consider (link below). The Annual Red River Memorial Bike Rally is currently going on right now. I think us three also made a brief pass through there on your trip out here.

Hope this gives you some ideas, I'm betting Ron probably has a good handle on most of it already.

Hey Gary

I have been to most of the places you mentioned, in fact John and I spend a night in Red River on our way back from last year's Inzane. Great little place  cooldude. My wife will be flying in for Inzane this year and I was wondering about the train trip from Antonito to Chama. My wife loves trains. Have you done it? Worth doing? and which way is the better route on the train going to Chama or going towards Antonito?

Have a safe and fun trip with your son.

I have not yet Ron but I would guess it would be a safe bet either way. I have taken CO-17 both ways many times over the years and that is pretty much the same path.

One common thing I've heard from those that have is that it can get cold, probably due to being out of the direct sunlight for extended stretches combined with the altitude.
