There's seems to be always bits and pieces of items to drive you crazy on a rebuild of a Valky.....  Ok on this one, it seems to be that the stock brake line is too long... (huh?) I took it apart and didnt notice. Wait, how did that happen? ------And now I'm checking the SS length and jeez, it looks like maybe 2 1/2 inches too long....ok what happened here? Check the stock line photos... I am inclined to spec the SS top to m/C lines much shorter.... Askling for opinions... So... Stock line with the line relaxed.... too long?  |

Ok so if I just bolt up the banjo... I get a large "bowing" in the steering head...  Then showing the excess slack --(where did that come from?)   |

This goes in the "wait a minute" column....... My original intention was to nail down a standard SS line thru Spiegler so someone could call up and say "gimme that". So I am not sure at this point that I'm comfortable with that....there always someone who will start a controversy.......
I have to get my own bike finished and built and it looks like I need to chop around 3 inches off the SS line to get it together...
I have already have gone beyond the call of duty for this stuff and even have a brake pipe fabricator working on the center pipe as a CNC build to order.

Maybe take pictures of your brake line?
Would you be in agreement it could or should be shortened?

Hi MelloDude, been following your posts on brake/clutch braided lines and wonder if your not overthinking this. As a retired mechanical design draughtsman I am often accused of the same thing. Why not contact www.helperformance.com - I've used their products on my Valks and they hold the patterns for Valk front and rear brakes and clutch. Their service is top class, they replaced a full set of hoses free of charge just cos I mentioned they had discoloured slightly - they were ten years old ! Lifetime warranty, in chrome or stainless and loads of colours they will also adjust lengths to suit custom builds. Usual disclaimer I have no financial connection to this company just a very satisfied customer. |

I 'm an engineer by trade, maybe I am overstressing on this.... I will contact helper performance and see what they say about the patterns. But for me, Spiegler is 10 minutes down the road and easy to work with.... besides I already have the SS hoses in hand. I'm still a bit baffled on why doesn't the OEM hose fit correctly (or well?)..... I copied the lengths for the SS parts. Gonna do some more fiddling today, it could be something stupid or I 'm blind on something... (Won't be the first time) |

The recommendation for HEL Performance is spot on. I had custom lines made for my Rocket 3 after adding risers and Valkyrie handlebars (much nicer than Triumph bars and they feel a lot more comfortable). Had a problem with the fittings on one set and they replaced them no questions or hassles.
Are you sure you have the lines routed the same as stock? Perhaps you re-routed the stock lines at some point due to aftermarket risers? The front of the service manual has diagrams showing routing of all tubing and cables...might want to double check before ordering shorter cables.

I just got all new braided brake and clutch lines from Speigler here in Centerville Ohio.
They had all the lengths already and made them up the same day, now I just need to get them put on...I went with the Transluscent blue lines with the anodiozed blue hardware .

Same guys I work with...  - So I'm kinda concluding that I'm head banging over nothing. (Really if you look at it, where the line crosses the lower triple, its gonna wear out/cut eventually, dunno about Honda on this one. ) --Look at the bottom photo... -->The SS lines are getting whacked shorter..
