I could use some sage advice on two of the Rostra cruise control connections on a 99 Interstate: - Can the Rostra Blue Tach wire be used to sense unexpected increases in rpm? If so, where is the best point to attach? - Is it possible to connect the Rostra Grey VSS wire directly to the Valkyrie's speed control (Black/Yellow), or should a resistor be used between? If a resistor is needed, what value would you recommend?
I have also seen several posts with differing DIP switch settings. Please give me any feedback that will shorten my break-in time. I appreciate any help in advance!

I can't answer your questions directly. Or rather, won't as it will take more time to research than I have available right now. However if you haven't seen this thread, you should read it carefully. Even print it out and use for reference while you're installing. I did, and also added my input. Mine is installed on a Tourer. I have added my tests and effects on the DIP sw settings. The unit works well, however doesn't hold speeds as accurately on hills as my 4Runner and Mazda CX-5 do. Thanks for your response, MarkT. I have used the article you referenced and found it extremely useful to get me as far as I am on the install. There are DIP settings relative to the VSS which will be unique for the Interstate when using the factory speed sensor. It is proving difficult to determine the pulses per mile with my bike on the lift, so I'll need to rearrange things and try again. Road testing won't be possible until spring.

The speed sensor isn't required if you hook the dark blue to the coil. Works great that way. I'm pretty sure that if you pull in the clutch while the cruise is engaged, that it will disengage the cruise when the engine revs.

FYI with BobB's setup described at above link, a relay is included that disengages the cruise when the clutch sw is engaged w/o engine revving. I had to modify the switch shim to make the switch activate sooner to prevent the clutch disengaging before the switch state was changed to prevent revving. IIRC so did BobB. Another relay does the same with the brake switches.

MarkT, thanks again for your response. I did add the clutch relay, but it seemed like a tach signal would be a preferred method. It could sense a loss of traction, for example.
john_berry, have you connected a Rostra using the tach wire to a coil with no speed sensor? Did you have to use a resistor or some other method to attenuate the signal, or put in any kind of noise filtering?

Yes, I hooked it to one side of the coil without a resister. I don't remember if it was the negative or positive though. Works great. You can go through all the work to put on the clutch relay if you want but from experience it's just not necessary. It's doesn't rev up that much before it disengages the cruise control.

You need to get the waterproof version of the cruise control switch. The other one will cause problems when it gets the slightest bit damp. My cruise would activate itself because of the water in the switch. That's a big big deal.

Nope. That's for the vacuum Audiovox CC install. Not the Rostra electronic cruise install. Parts of it may work though I didn't check that. They come from the same outfit I think. Use BobB's instructions at http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,86066.0.htmlI have not had any problems with the control unit that came with the Rostra while having been in some soakers with it. Maybe mine didn't leak or they delivered a waterproof one. Mine over-revved w/o the clutch relay and in fact I had to modify the switch activation shim to stop that. But I didn't use the speed sensor per your mention - wired it like BobB did; I didn't connect any wire to the coils.
