Life is terminal.  The sooner we learn to not deny this fact the sooner we will be able to get on with real living.

What we have experienced is fear (panic) fanned by a self serving media and a demand that the government take measures to change the inevitable.  True virus protection measures include washing one's hands and avoiding touching one's mouth, nose and eyes.  The measures we've taken are intended to slow down the spread of the virus.  Slow down is not the same as stop.  Barring the miraculous rapid development of a vaccine the people who will contract the virus will contract the virus sooner or later.  The only way to completely stop the spread of viruses is to go to complete universal isolation.  I don't think we can do this.

As a young man I read a science fiction book in which a story was included of two people working to parent a baby.  In the fictional society people stayed entirely in their residents with all interchange being remote electronically.  The couple attempting to sire were separated by plastic with only the necessary genitals exposed.  I guess they hadn't thought of artificial insemination.  I don't choose to live that way.

Live life.  Accept the reasonable risks.  Take the precautions that you are willing to take accepting the restrictions that you are willing to endure.

Government house arrest of healthy subjects is not acceptable and it saves no one's life.

Those were some crazy books you were reading way back when, Willow.    Wink

Live life!   Absolutely.   We'll all keel over eventually.

The people were in  residences.   They were residents within them.

Alright,  I'm convinced.   Those cursed crooked epidemiologists!  It's obvious this piddly little popcorn fart of a virus is a total hoax.  Carry on.   Nothing to see here.   Same as it ever was.

Just writing that was very therapeutic.   It's almost as if this global pandemic is behind us, and never even occurred!   I can see the reasoning in that thinking.  As Alfred said,  "What, me worry?  coolsmiley

I realize that you have stated several times that you are NOT freaked out by this Virus and that you think things should begin a return to normal.

And I really want to believe you.

But, Posts like this make it very hard for me to do so.

Nope.   Just packing sammiches instead of purchasing them.  Cheryl and I are planng a ride today.   Do whatever you want.

Agree 100%

On Friday I made a stop at a local Adult Beverage Store to find that they were making people stand behind a line and the workers were going to the shelves to get you what you asked for.

I simply began shaking my head in disbelief when one of the workers demanded to know what my problem was.

So, I told him that my problem was that this was all a bunch of BS.

He began yelling at me and said, "I don't want to die, do you?"

I replied to him, "Nobody gets out of this world alive".

He said, "I'd at least like to make it to 50".

I said, "It isn't what it's cracked up to be".

I really like how they're doing things for my "Protection" and yet I have to let them hand me something from much less than 6ft away.

On top of that I had to use the same electronic pen on the CC machine that everyone had touched (they weren't cleaning it between customers).

They weren't happy when I pointed out the idiocy of that either.

For Comparison (I did a search and did not see this mentioned in this thread)..

Hong Kong Flu 1968 - 1970

(Information garnered from several sources no links provided)

1968 flu pandemic, also called Hong Kong flu pandemic of 1968 or Hong Kong flu of 1968, global outbreak of influenza that originated in China in July 1968 and lasted until 1969–70. The outbreak was the third influenza pandemic to occur in the 20th century; it followed the 1957 flu pandemic and the influenza pandemic of 1918–19. The 1968 flu pandemic resulted in an estimated one million to four million deaths worldwide (an estimated 100,000 in the United States), far fewer than the 1918–19 pandemic, which caused between 25 million and 50 million deaths (Worldwide).

The highest levels of mortality were associated with the most susceptible groups, namely infants and the elderly. A vaccine was not available for the Hong Kong Flu until the August of 1969., after the pandemic had peaked in many countries.

The economy was not shut down, schools weren’t closed and things like concerts continued (anyone remember Bethel, New York?). There was none of the reaction we have now.

My what a difference 50 years makes.

Sorry.   I was feeling my wild oats that day and called the leaders of  the world individually,  requesting that each lockdown their economies because I had a hunch a new virus was coming to their respective nations.  It's amazing the great powers we have when we employ them!

Seriously, it seems it was pretty much beyond our control.  It seems you're ready to fight.  I'm not opposed to that,  but for the time being I hope We The People attempt to do so via legal avenues.

I'm a 2A guy.   Are our wares necessary at State Captiols - - yet?   Probably not.

BTW,  Colorado just let up a bit on restrictions today!   I'm happy about that,  but still don't want folks I'd rather not see anyway hugging me in our Safeway.

Interesting study.  Very interesting article.

https://nextstrain.org/ncov/global

https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/virus-mutations-reveal-how-covid-19-really-spread1/

Virus Mutations Reveal How COVID-19 Really Spread
Globe-trotting humans were the culprits

The sequences, which advance from left to right in the graphic, show that the virus jumped from an animal to humans in China, humans transmitted it to one another within China, then people traveling from there spread it globally person to person. The virus had not mutated significantly as of March 31, 2020; human contact created the pandemic, not a wildly evolving pathogen. Mapping the spread also substantiates actions that could have best mitigated it: faster, wider testing in China; earlier, stricter global travel bans and isolation of infected people; and more immediate social distancing worldwide.

New models, new numbers we can bicker about.  Round and round and round she goes.  And where she stops nobody knows.

https://www.waaytv.com/content/news/570182042.html

From the article, verbatim. :

An influential coronavirus model often cited by the White House is now forecasting that 134,000 people will die of Covid-19 in the United States, nearly double its previous prediction.

The model, from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington, previously predicted 72,433 deaths as of Monday morning.

Relatedly, a Trump administration model projects a rise in coronavirus cases and deaths in the weeks ahead, up to about 3,000 daily deaths in the US by June 1, according to an internal document obtained by The New York Times. Over the past week, about 2,000 people died daily in the US, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

The sharp increases in the two models are tied to relaxed social distancing and increased mobility in the US. States across the country -- including Florida, Colorado, Indiana, Nebraska and South Carolina -- have eased restrictions in an attempt to revive a sputtering economy and calm restless residents.

The projections make clear that these reopenings come with fatal risks.

'It's simple logic,' CNN's senior medical correspondent Elizabeth Cohen said. 'When you tell people, 'Hey, you can go to bars, you can get your nails done, you can go to a restaurant,' those numbers are going to go up.'

The novel coronavirus's incubation period -- or the time from exposure to developing symptoms -- ranges from two to 14 days, according to the CDC, and the virus can even spread among people who show no symptoms at all. With widespread testing still limited, the consequences of these reopenings may not be evident for several weeks.

Ali Mokdad, a professor of Health Metrics Sciences at IHME, told CNN's John King on Monday that there are 'several reasons' for the increased projections.

'One of them is increased mobility before the relaxation, premature relaxation, of social distancing,' he said. 'We're adding more presumptive deaths as well, and we're seeing a lot of outbreaks in the Midwest, for example.'

He said multiple variables impact infections -- like heat, testing capacity and population density -- but 'the most important one is mobility.'

Right now, he said, 'we're seeing an increase in mobility that's leading to an increase in mortality, unfortunately, in the United States.'

In addition, IHME director Dr. Christopher Murray said there is a 'longer tail of deaths,' meaning some states will see a slower decline in deaths.

Coronavirus has killed 68,285 people in the US and infected more than 1,171,000 others, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

President Donald Trump had previously said he expected 65,000 Americans to die, but on Sunday night, he revised that estimated death toll up to 80,000-90,000 people. It may not be the last upward revision; Dr. Deborah Birx, a White House coronavirus task force official, said projections have shown between 100,000 to 240,000 American deaths, even with social distancing.

A Pennsylvania woman partied after being told she had coronavirus. Then she was thrown in jail.

https://www.mcall.com/opinion/mc-opi-coronavirus-quarantine-violation-jail-muschick-20200505-nfv2twhyenf47eqx5nbx3zl4vi-story.html

 From the article. :

At a time when many people are complaining about their freedoms being destroyed, threatening to lock up quarantine violators will fan those flames of resentment.

You know who probably don’t care? The 27 people the Erie woman may have infected.

Because of her actions, those people had to quarantine, too, because they came in contact with her, or came in contact with others she had encountered, according to the Times-News.

Situations such as this put public health officials in a difficult position.

They need people to trust them and cooperate with them, and hauling people into court and possibly identifying them publicly isn’t a great way to build trust.

But officials also must look out for the greater good of the community they serve. And if they know that a person with a contagious and potentially deadly disease doesn’t care if they could be spreading it, then action is necessary.

So, US stock market investors have gained a stunning $109 million for every American that has died from COVID-19 since The Fed began its bailout.

During the same period, 30.3 million Americans have lost their jobs.

Worst places to be during a pandemic -
1. Rest / Nursing homes
2. Jails / prisons
3. Hospitals
4. Any place with a large gathering of people (strangers make this worse)

isn't it interesting that during the height of the fauci scare of HIV/Aids, there were no lock downs or people going to jail for infecting others including the ones that were giving blood, that is how Arthur Ash died, Yet in Cuban, all infected by HIV/Aids were put away in locked downed prison camps.

I remember the HIV/AIDS years well. The was plenty of Russian Roulette being played out there. I remember people having to sign papers before getting married, some even went as far as asking for recent bloodwork evidence when dating. People were afraid to have surgery and dental work done. People were afraid to donate blood and receive blood in emergency situations. People were afraid of toilets and bathrooms.

Did all that stop the function of society and socializing, no it didn’t. It didn’t stop IV drug users. It didn’t stop dating and promiscuity. Today it seems the fear of contracting HIV/AIDS is nonexistent. This is just my opinion of how much of the people use “dating” APP’s to hook up.

I don't trivialize virii and disease but AIDS was a different animal.  Bloodborne, spread via bodily fluids.  Easy to avoid, ya don't get it by rubbing elbows in crowds with asymptomatic folks.  People were prosecuted for knowingly spreading HIV/AIDS.

...

It's a single anecdote with little real meaning to how the nation as a whole should be treated.

I don't ever remember reading a story a a flu infected person being jailed for not self quarantining.  Influenza is potentially deadly.  Where do we draw the line?

As to the question asked of whether she should be allowed to "party hardily" I believe that to be a personal choice.  If it can be proven in court that she intentionally put others at risk.  She should be charged with the appropriate crime.

Placing healthy people under stay-at-home restrictions lest they might remotely possibly be infected is not only wrong it is contrary to our rights as Americans.

cooldude  Good enough!  Again flu is not a novel virus with no vaccine.

I guess since she was knowingly infected and potentially shedding the virus, she didn't quite fall into the "healthy people" category.  At least she was having a large time while doing so, because we all have been given the right to pursue happiness!   coolsmiley

I guess since she was knowingly infected and potentially shedding the virus, she didn't quite fall into the "healthy people" category.  At least she was having a large time while doing so, because we all have been given the right to pursue happiness!   coolsmiley

You go, girl!   cooldude

If it can be proven in court that she intentionally put others at risk.  She should be charged with the appropriate crime.

Went to eat at an actual sit down Mexican restaurant with the spousal unit and the elder spawn last night. First time in a long time we've been able to do that; those chips and salsa never tasted so good!

(And I've never left a larger tip for "okay" service before in my life.)

(The restaurant was not totally empty as the pic looks, we got there early and there were I'm guessing 8-10 other occupied tables, all well spaced out.)

Taking precautions, being safe. But getting on with LIVING life instead of just surviving it.

https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2020/05/01/gov-ron-desantis-shames-media-outbreak-models-doomsday-predictions-off-by-nearly-500k-in-florida/

DeSantis showed statistics comparing Florida’s fatalities per 100,000 to New York’s higher number even though the Florida population is larger and skews older.  An April 22 map shows 76.2 deaths per 100,000 in New York and 4.0 deaths per 100,000 to Florida. DeSantis used an April 28 graphic showing 117.5 per 100,000 in New York compared to 5.2 in Florida.

New York has had 42,417 estimated hospitalizations.  This compared to a reported 3,745 hospitalizations in Florida as of today.

“Saying Florida was going to be like New York was wrong and people need to know it was wrong,” DeSantis commented.

The Florida governor cited a demographer at the University of California, Irvine, Andrew Noymer, who received widespread media attention when he warned that “Florida is like an uber-Italy.”

“Not just like Italy. Way worse than Italy is what they were trying to say,” DeSantis said of the doomsday predictions.

Leaving aside the massive numbers of total hospitalizations in Italy during the crisis, DeSantis compared the number of people currently hospitalized in Italy per 100,000 to Florida’s much lower numbers.  He also showed a graph of 45.5 fatalities per 100,000 in Italy to Florida’s 5.2.

Then

She said that some rural counties could reopen by May 15, but it could take longer in counties with more than five cases of COVID-19.

OK we finally have the real reason for the lock down and who is responsible and why the numbers are so far off

Scientist Whose Doomsday Models Sparked Global Lockdown Resigns After Breaking Quarantine To Bang Married Lover

Professor Neil Ferguson - whose dire coronavirus predictions prompted worldwide lockdown measures still in place - broke his own advice on the need for strict social distancing to hook up with his married lover, according to the Telegraph.

On at least two occasions, Antonia Staats, 38, travelled across London from her home in the south of the capital to spend time with the Government scientist, nicknamed Professor Lockdown.

The 51-year-old had only just finished a two-week spell self-isolating after testing positive for coronavirus.

Prof Ferguson told the Telegraph: "I accept I made an error of judgment and took the wrong course of action. I have therefore stepped back from my involvement in Sage [the government's Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies]. -Telegraph

That is a TON of over reach.

The numbers for Oregon just don't justify it:

With 2,759 total cases Oregon ranks 38th out of 50 states.

With 1,790 active cases Oregon ranks 35th out of 50 states.

With 109 total deaths Oregon ranks 35th out of 50 states.

And there have been no new deaths for at least the last 2 days.

By the numbers Oregon should be making plans to open up, not keep things closed.

DOCTORS IN BLACK - PlanDemic, global plan to take control of our lives, liberty, health & freedom

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1l5354hYmtk

ABOUT THE FILM.  Truth of Doctors - Features scientist, Dr Judy Mikovits PHD. ,
Humanity is imprisoned by a killer pandemic. People are being arrested for surfing in the ocean and meditating in nature. Nations are collapsing. Hungry citizens are rioting for food. The media has generated so much confusion and fear that people are begging for salvation in a syringe.
Billionaire patent owners are pushing for globally mandated vaccines. Anyone who refuses to be injected with experimental poisons will be prohibited from travel, education and work. No, this is not a synopsis for a new horror movie. This is  our current reality.

Let’s back up to address how we got here...

In the early 1900s, America’s first Billionaire, John D. Rockefeller bought a German pharmaceutical company that would later assist Hitler to implement his eugenics-based vision by manufacturing chemicals and poisons for war. Rockefeller wanted to eliminate the

competitors of Western medicine, so he submitted a report to Congress declaring that there were too many doctors and medical schools in America, and that all natural healing modalities were unscientific quackery. Rockefeller called for the standardization of medical education, whereby only his organization be allowed to grant medical school licenses in the US. And so began the practice of immune suppressive, synthetic and toxic drugs. Once people had become dependent on this new system and the addictive drugs it provided, the system switched to a paid program, creating lifelong customers for the Rockefellers.
