Valkarado, not disagreeing but I feel it is still to soon to get the entire picture there. I am texting different locations daily in Sweden and one friend a doctor and one a police officer, I mentioned this and it was new to them. What I am finding is, without the forced restrictions they are personally acting as careful as we are, at least my friends are and what they see. They paint a different picture locally then everyone is out and about like the news is telling. Still I am very interested in this “soft approach” model.

I believe their government is just establishing the additional powers and has not implemented them -- as of yet. From the articles: "Sweden’s government is drawing up new legislation to allow it to take “extraordinary steps” to combat Covid-19". "The Swedish government is seeking more powers to implement a lockdown or stronger restrictions on public life, Swedish media reported on Saturday". I sincerely hope they don't feel the need to do so, and that Sweden comes through this with flying colors!

My son, grand daughter, grand dog, and I went out to a set of trails to walk today. A friend I used to work with (he retired 12 years ago) called me while we were out. He lives in the small farming town of Armeda in MI. He told me he had covid 19 and spent 3 days in the ICU but was now recovered. His wife never got it. They are both in their 70's and not fitness nuts or any thing. SO while this is serious and something to take precautions against catching, it does not appear to be the end of the world as it is being reported. Stay safe all.

The best singer/songwriter of the last century did one of my favorite songs (In fact, the song I dedicated to my first girlfriend as we broke up) did a special version of that song, sans pants, in honor of the quarantine..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrq2bRvvG8E

NOt so sure Weird Al is the best singer songwriter of the last century? Interesting choice of words though in that song for sure. What did you do to piss off of so much your first girlfriend to deserve such a song?

Went to the early Tuesday 6am seniors (60 and up) at my Walmart today, and it is a pretty good deal. Small numbers (about 15 of us), fresh stock (as good as can be expected), easy in and out. Place was cleaner than I can ever remember (which doesn't take much). However, every (food) isle had stockers working, and they all gave us dirty looks. I never owned a bottle of hand sanitizer (except Clorox bleach clean-up) in my life. I asked a gal if it was possible they had any, and she took me to the pharmacy who are holding it behind the counter. Two 3oz limit. In case you are looking. Hadn't been up at 5am or heard my alarm in years... gave me a very nasty flashback that I was still working.

If you bleed like I do - yes. We're talking at least 3 needle sticks per unit to get it out of me - I clot in needles (even the big blood donation ones). And there are no readily accessible veins visible on my arms (they are DEEP down) or legs.

do u have Factor V Leiden? if you are ethnic European you most likely have it. Leiden is the Dutch town in the province of South Holland, Netherlands, where it has been traced back to where it started. A blood test is the only way to know for sure, snake venom is used to test the blood. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Factor_V_Leiden

I've never been tested, but I'm incredibly difficult to get blood out of. Even getting the small amounts for lab blood tests are an interesting exercise, even after I tell the blood drawer that I'm " a hard stick". It's hard for me to get my blood glucose drops out for my diabetes testing. No DVT's yet. My sister apparently didn't inherit this however - she bleeds like a stuck pig. Maybe next time I see the doctor I'll suggest they try this on me.

I didn't realize this statistic. Of the victims unfortunate enough to require ventilation, 80% won't make it. So, all the scrambling for ventilators is to meet a 20% success rate from their use. https://metro.co.uk/2020/04/01/80-coronavirus-patients-ventilators-will-die-volunteers-told-12493061/Before someone reminds me ,YES, I realize 80% of folks infected don't require hospitalization at all and only 5% of those require ventilation. Still, this explains the bodies piling up.

Some interactive charts and graphs here. You can plug in your state and see projected (or in some cases presumed past) peak levels. I was actually quite pleased to see that Colorado may be in pretty good shape overall. https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2020/04/07/825479416/new-yorks-coronavirus-deaths-may-level-off-soon-when-might-your-state-s-peakGunnison county on the other hand is not cleared for frolicking -- yet. Stay the hell out! For what it's worth, they do not issue this health order for the seasonal flu. Just sayin'. More Good News: 'It's not fancy, but it works': Mississippi doctor uses garden hose, lamp timer and electronic valve to create makeshift ventilators https://www.msn.com/en-us/n...hDwb?ocid=spartandhpJACKSON, Miss. — As states across the country beg for ventilators to help patients suffering with respiratory issues from COVID-19, the University of Mississippi Medical Center is building its own makeshift ventilators with supplies found at a hardware store. Dr. Charles Robertson, a UMMC pediatric anesthesiologist and the mastermind behind the idea, said he set out to make the "absolute simplest ventilator we can build with parts available in any city, you don't need special tools to put together and can be done quickly as the need arises." Made with "primarily a garden hose, a lamp timer and electronic valve," the ventilator, named the Robertson Ventilator, for less than $100, can be assembled in approximately 20 to 30 minutes, meaning a dedicated team of four to five could produce nearly 100 in a day if needed, he said. Demonstrating the functionality of the machine at a news conference Tuesday afternoon, Robertson turned on a ventilator hooked up to a mannequin. The mannequin's chest began to rise and fall. The Robertson Ventilator: 'The brain behind the thing is actually a lamp timer' While in-demand ventilators may go to states that are the highest bidder, Robertson noted the parts he gathered are from Home Depot and Lowe's. "No one has been competing with me for those," he said. As of Tuesday, UMMC staff had assembled 170 of the ventilators, Robertson said, doubling the hospital's capacity. They have parts to make 75 more. Given the supplies involved and their wide availability, UMMC has "the ability to quickly manufacture any more if we need them," he said. Dr. Richard Summers, associate vice chancellor for research for UMMC, addressed the shortage of conventional ventilators, saying, "as a contingency plan, we were looking for our state to be independent." "The brain behind the thing is actually a lamp timer," he said. "It's not fancy but it works. This would be available as a last resort if the numbers increase as we think they might." University of Mississippi Medical Center seeks FDA emergency authorizationThe Robertson Ventilators have been tested and proven to be successful on both laboratory animals at UMMC and in simulation, Summers said, and "performed well, even in conditions that we would expect with COVID lung." The hospital has applied for an Emergency Use Authorization from the Food and Drug Administration for the Robertson Ventilators, in the event the conventional ventilators are already in use. Dr. Alan Jones, chair of emergency medicine, said UMMC currently has 80 to 90 conventional ventilators. As of Tuesday, almost 20 patients with COVID-19 and another 20 to 30 non-COVID patients are are on those ventilators. "I do feel as though we are positioned ... that if we got to the point of needing this it's going to be a dire situation," he said. Roberston said that if hospitals have the option, a commercially available ventilator should be used first, "but with a patient whose likely to die soon, this could be lifesaving." "The role of this ventilator is if there's nothing else available," he said. "This is something that can be made quickly. "The problems with the worst-case scenario is it will only come on very rapidly and apparent within a day or two that it's going to happen. We can build as many of these as patients to use them." Whoever said "Sliced Bread" was the best idea to come along wasn't feeling a real need...…… I love it when a plan comes together... Innovation, imagination and just some plain ole common sense!Rams

Even doctors can use redneck engineering. My last two short, cheap Walmart hoses both badly kinked and sprung leaks within just 2-3 uses. No doubt cheap Chinese crap. So use non-Chinese hoses to assemble these ventilators.

Not sure that this trend will play out across America, but interesting nonetheless. In 9 days, COVID-19 killed more NJ residents than the flu does in a yearhttps://nj1015.com/in-9-days-covid-19-killed-more-nj-residents-than-the-flu-does-in-a-year/

You need to read the CDC guidance a LOT more closely. COVID-19 code u07.1 will be used ONLY if it is a probable cause. It would be totally rediculous to assign that code on a heart attack (as one example), or gunshot wounds.
