Always ridden a standard but on long trips an Interstate is superior to a standard or tourer for one reason  only that 6.9 gallon fuel tank that's huge especially out west.  However I feel standards and tourers are a little more sporty than the Interstate with that barndoor fairing so a plus for the standard and tourer.  The large trunk on the Interstate rules over the standard and tourer so a winner for the Interstate.  Looks wise they both look great so we will call that even.  Would I buy a Interstate yes absolutely if the right one came along but still prefer the sporty nature of the standard over the Interstate.   In the final analysis there is no final solution ride whatever example of the Valkyrie that makes you happy.

Oss has one of the sharpest Interstates for sale that you will ever find. And he's practically giving it away.

I added an I/S tank, saddle bags, shocks and Triple Trees, for reduced trail number for better handling, to my Standard.

For long distance touring I prefer the Tourer with my mods and a trailer - Timeout or Tagalong.  Russell seat, forward controls, pullback risers, Rostra electronic cruise, tipped shield, 10 gallons (IS & belly tanks), sound system and GPS / phone, and now VTXtreme 4° triple trees are the main mods for my comfort.  Not to mention double darkside and Progressive suspension front & rear.  This bike is far more comfy than my wing.  All the mods listed on Jade: http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,107621.0.html

Not a real recent picture -

Mark, I tried the 6 deg. triple tree change and didn't like how it handled, especially at interstate speed. I'm curious about the 4 deg. and how it handles/feels, also where did you get it?

put an interstate tank on my 2001 standard with a 99 tourer bags and windshield.    With the interstate tank I ususally run about 160 miles before gassing.    It will go a little  further but don't like switching to reserve.  it will fit right on the standard or tourer but you have to plug the gas gauge hole on the bottom of the tank.

Where can you find an Interstate tank for a reasonable price ? Considering fuel economy, it's the only thing I don't like about my Valk - 125, MAYBE 150 miles just doesn't cut it when my shortest range car can go 400 miles (the other can go 700+ in the right kind of driving - Interstates at 65-70 mph, especially without Airconditioning). Wife was just commenting that just about every ride I take ends up at the QUikTrip where there is non-ethanol gas then home.

I remember the Attic Rat had a Interstate tank for sale for 500 dollars worth every penny at Inzane

John, I went with Daryl's advice and ordered the 4° trees for my Tourer, not triked or side hack.  6° is recommended for trikes.  The handling is improved over stock.  Steering is lighter, it sits a little lower, feels well planted in sweepers.  He's at https://vtxtreme.com/

Thanks Mark, thought it might have been his trees. I tried a set of his 6 degree and had to take them off, much too light in the steering which bothered me at speed. Haven't heard much from him as of late, I assume he's still operating.

Did they do the blue/white in a tourer or did you paint hard bags?

The Blue and White is a Standard.  The added Interstate bags were painted to match.
