I am a decent American; more than some.  I served eleven years as a United States Marine.  Be careful when you assume your status as a decent American is dependent totally upon one decision you've made and then comparing yourself to another.

My Chiefs all but one stood for the anthem.  That one is a rookie (first year).  The NFL is certainly made up of both good and bad Americans.  They're all entertainers.  I haven't stopped watching all movies but I am more selective than I once was.  I don't declare that all who watch movies I don't watch are not decent Americans.

Apologies for my words and implication thereof. You are definitely more than a decent American by any measurement. I'm slightly disappointed in many who are continuing to support this activity, not just you, and let my emotions get the better of my words.

Chiefs will be hard to beat this year again for sure playoff bound anything less would be total disappointment.  That young running back they got in was very very good had some good juke moves back and forth to avoid tackles, near Barry Sanders material, well almost...

JJ Watt was not much of a factor although the Texans played a good 1st half mostly I think.  They just let it slip away 2nd half for sure.  Interesting to see the top paid QB's they did with Mahomes at the top around 40 million for a 24 year old,  very impressive.

Was interesting to see the Texans stay in while Chiefs stayed on the field during the Anthem.  Supposedly a sign of support for BLM movement, not so sure some on the Texans team agreed with that by staying inside?

Was interesting to see so few fans in the entire stadium about 6,000 or so.  And to top it off you could hear the BOO's from the small crowd in the stands when they all united together both teams in the middle of the field to show unity, that was odd to me.

Well, I enjoyed the game and pretty much ignored the side show.
When I say I ignored the sideshow, I meant I didn't even begin watching until after the kickoff.   That was intentional.  Didn't watch the half time show either.

Won't watch a lot of the NFL games, really only interested in watching the Chiefs and will probably miss most of their games.

I find it humorous a football post can turn political...   Grin
The NFL and it's players made it political IMHO.
I can only react.

I hated Kaepernick kneeling during the National Anthem and still do but, that's his and those who follow his lead decision.   Basically he sacrificed his career for something he thought was worth it.   I think there are better ways he could have used his "fame" to achieve his desired results but, his decision.   I've always believed people are responsible for the actions/decisions.

I was taken back by the Un-American comment (having spent the majority of my adult life in service to my country, both USMC and US Army) but, I realize (even I) say things at times that would be better left unsaid.  I fly our flag daily and today have it at half mast.

The colors on the flag represent:

Red: valor and bravery
White: purity and innocence
Blue: vigilance, perseverance, and justice

I sincerely believe ALL LIVES MATTER, and I do support the Thin Blue Line.   Having said that, I still agree with Chris Rock and I don't think it matters what color you are.   coolsmiley

While I used to be a MAJOR NFL fan, I now flatly refuse to watch any professional sports at all. In fact, nothing would make me happier (Other than Conservatives sweeping the House, Senate as well as the Presidency this November) than to witness the complete collapse of ALL professional sports here in the U.S.

In fact, not only am I completely boycotting ALL professional sports, I now make a concerted effort to boycott their sponsors as well whenever possible.

I whole heartedly support your decision.  I think all professional players are over paid entertainers and their celebrity voices mean no more to me than any other person's.   Having said that, I grew up a KC Chiefs fan.   If that is beyond what some can handle, I won't apologize for liking one team within a flawed organization.   It is, what it is.

Obviously, you can watch if you like.  I used to be a big football fan.  My beef is with the NFL for allowing this behavior.

The NFL opened its season by honoring the "Black National Anthem" and disrespecting the Star-Spangled Banner.  The Texans players refused to take the field for either song.  Most of the Chiefs players stood for the Star-Spangled Banner (at least one player took a knee and thrust his fist into the air).  However, the entire team stood at attention for the "Black National Anthem."

Before the start of the game the spectators were told to stand for a moment of silence and racial equality.  Instead, many in the crowd booed.

I will not support the NFL until they stop allowing their employees to disrespect our flag and those who fought to protect what it represents.

I agree 100% with Connie. I was looking forward to watching the Colts with their new quarterback. Since they have decided to kneel for the national anthem or not even come out for it they are slapping the face of all who died under that flag and for those who protect us everyday. Now they are kneeling for a pedophile thug who got shot by the police.

I don't need to be entertained and that's all professional sports are is entertainment. If you still want to that is your right, but I refuse to idolize a bunch of overpaid babies that refuse to go to work. Bottom line is, playing is their job....

I missed the first 3 quarters. Did they play the "Black National Anthem" (which I wasn't aware their was one) instead of the Star Bangled Banner ? AFL ? I'm going from memory, but I think they have been merged into the NFL (AFC & NFC) since the late 60's ? They booed racial equality ?

I did not see the beginning of the game.  I'm told they played the "black national anthem" and then the Star Spangled Banner.  The Houston team stood in the end zone for the black anthem but returned to the locker room for the Star Spangled Banner.  The crowd began booing as the Houston team returned to the field after the U.S. national anthem.

I too am confused about the black national anthem.  Where is their nation?  Who is their president and legislators?  Where is their territory?

The "racial equality" card has been played to the level of ridiculousness.  Before the game I suppose we should also play an American Indian national anthem, a Samoan national anthem, and who knows what else?

Kansas Cityans believed more than ever that the Houston team deserved to lose.

I will not support the NFL until they stop allowing their employees to disrespect our flag and those who fought to protect what it represents.

As I previously said, the NFL is a flawed organization.

Obviously, you can watch if you like.  I used to be a big football fan.  My beef is with the NFL for allowing this behavior.

Sorry, my mistake, meant NFL (AFC and NFC).  Fixed it.  They played the "Black National Anthem" first and then the Star Spangled (not Bangled) Banner.  I believe the spectators were booing at having the narrative forced on them, when they were there simply to enjoy a game.  As Willow stated, the spectators also booed when the Texans returned from the locker room after the Star Spangled Banner.

I'd boo them if they went to the Locker Room during the Star Spangled Banner as well.

Had I known this, I would have probably tuned in something else.   I intentionally started watching after the kick off because I wasn't interested in the pre-game stuff.  I also routinely find something more productive to do during half time.   The only time I used to watch half time was during Super Bowls but, even that got to be a load of crap.

When I'm your way I'd like to buy you a beer Cool Golf is a great sport by the way.  Wink I'm in agreememt with your outlook or optimism of our election.  coolsmiley

Well, as long as it's not one of those beers that they advertise during NBA, NFL, or MLB games, you're on!

Can't say I've ever been much for watching golf, but it can grow on me.... Used to enjoy playing, but I really sucked at it.
