Had a freebee 4 deg. t/w sent a while back and today went about pulling the front apart to replace the belts and T/W on the trike. Got it all apart, pulled the wheel out of the package....lo & behold it's a 6 deg., not a 4 deg. Well nuts, since the trike is a converted I/S I'm not going to install a 6 deg. I know, I should have checked it before now but being a mere mortal....  NEVER MIND....ORDERED ONE FROM CYCLEMAX. |

How about doing what we did 20+ yrs ago, file it. Lay them together and take a measurement, file the original.

I did the same. It worked better than the aftermarket wheel as the bike would not start when the weather was below 50°. It got really annoying when you get all warm and "leathered up," chaps and all, just to find out the stinkin bike won't start!! Someone here posted the amount to file off on the tang either for 4° or 6°. |

Any good photos showing the filed pulleys for 4 and 6 degree advance? I did a search last night, and I found most posts with photos were old files that don't show up anymore. I'd love to do it myself, but would like a visual reference. If anyone has any or knows a link with good photos, please let me know.
Not trying to hijack John's thread; he already ordered one.

I can't remember for sure the amount to file. But if John does it he'll have the 2 wheels to compare and figure the 4º from the 6º wheel. Maybe he'll post that figure.

Thank you sir! See everyone; 98valk does more than add political threads. Very true, we've emailed back/forth with no politics, just good techy stuff for the Valk. This morning just for kicks I put the stock t/w and 6 deg. t/w together to see what the difference was. Here's a shot taken with the key slot tangs lined up, gives an idea of a 6 compared to OEM. The OEM is the one on top. Then if you line up the trigger tangs it gives you an idea of how much you have to grind off the OEM key slot tang to equal the 6. Sure isn't much, I'll wait for the 4 deg. and make the same comparison.  |

Oh, it's a $h1T show, that's for sure. But, I've joined some facebook groups that make me laugh every single day because pretty much anything goes. I've joined some groups that have led me to some local people that I ride with at times. Last, but probably not least, is that FB marketplace is way more popular for people selling stuff than Craigslist is now, at least around here. Oh, and to the original point, I do enjoy calmly trolling my most progressive acquaintances while they lose their minds. Sometimes I almost feel bad, but it passes quickly.

Got my 4 deg. T/W in the mail today, now if the weather will warm up a few hundred degrees I can put my bike/trike back together. I brought the new belts inside to keep them warm, they were so stiff from the cold in the garage it was difficult to bend them. I have some IR(infrared) heaters but can only run one off the outlet in the garage due to load. So, I split it up by running an extension from the kitchen circuit and another extension from the halway since they're not on the same circuit breaker. That gives me 3 of the 4 IR heaters I have available working to take the chill off. I back the car out & close the door, then let the heaters run for at least an hour. Seems to work fairly well if temps are upper 30s but with temps in the mid-low 20s I'm not real optimistic. I'm just hoping the wheel off my '98 Tourer will work on the '99 I/S trike.
