Rosie,

Same here, my good friend... good Lord willing and all that... Sure will be good to see you and all the fine folks who make this an annual thing! As for the weather... well, up yonder we just have to take what we get. If it is even close to what we had last summer, however, I can hardly wait!!!

Are you aware of a biggie 'bonus' feature I've discovered that comes with this ride? It's a benefit I stumbled upon quite unexpectedly, but it has become something I truly look forward to... Now, I can add seeing you to that growing list of great things happening up yonder in the Yooper!!! I may start packing and loading today!

I need to get me a new one of those.   The switch on mine broke in the on position and I'm always (now) having to remind myself to give my Valkyrie friends that six feet of personal space.   Some times that's hard to do.

Bump for a really good time.   cooldude

I sure wish I could do this...I spent some summer weeks in Lake Linden and Bootjack every other year until I was 14. Did all the copper mine tours and love pasties and thimble berry jam, still have some agates I collected. My uncle was a Prof at Tech.

My dad’s family was from the UP and he was a Tech grad.

Good times.

Best to All.

Good times.

Realizing that different regions have different terms and meanings of those terms, I'm a bit confused, what mine tours and thimble berry jam have to do with "Pasties"?     2funny

Oh yeah, bump for a really good event.    cooldude

Had I not been there before I would also be confused.

To be honest my first thought was still of the covers.

The Yoopers call them Pasty:

I tried a breakfast one while I was there.

It wasn't bad.

Pastie or Pasty? In Yooper-land those folks have both covered... I'd never heard of a pasty until I was up there, and I'd never tried one until Waterbug presented me with a gift of one last summer.  I had learned of pasties long ago, however, and there is a story that goes with that very first experience... not suited for telling on here, though.  Anyway, anyone still confused about the distinctions between those should just scoot on up to Gig's thang and do some first-hand experimenting... I promise your efforts will be handsomely rewarded!

Twisty roads in Michigan? When I lived there the biggest curve I ever experience was the one I made pulling into my driveway.

Well, looks like the border will be closed again this year as we are currently in lockdown in Ontario. Couldn't cross last year either. If it re-opens with no 14 day quarantine required we'll be there.

Mellowyellow:

We will have to monitor the border situation closely - policies are changing daily. Hopefully, things will open up by then and we will be able to welcome our Canadian friends once again.

All,

WOW! May 21st! I'm going to withhold euphoria for the moment fearing it just could be premature... See, I just don't trust politicians or 'news-people'. However, I have crossed my fingers and I'm looking earnestly for my rabbit's foot so it can be stroked!!! It would be fab to welcome our Canadian friends back to our events, and it would be just as fab to know a return to their land might soon be in the cards!!! Wishful thinking or hopeful optimism - either way, I'm on the verge of picking one!

Our MI governor is tying the lifting of restrictions to the number of people that get vaccinated.  But the choice is strictly up to you.  Don't get vaccinated and continue to be denied your freedoms, or comply with our wishes and we'll give you a little taste of what is was like to be free.  Oh yeah, one more thing, if you do get vaccinated and have catastrophic side effects, the manufacturer has no liability.  But don't worry, the vaccine is completely safe, Trust us.

her restrictions have no teeth, and you and I both know it. They aren’t enforceable for the most part and haven’t been, unless some snowflake pitches a bitch about someone standing too close to them.
What has me more worried is the free handouts of our taxpayers money to the lowlifes who refuse to go back to the work. The road to ruin is paved with good intentions, as we all know.

Today is May 21, and outdoor mask and gathering restrictions have been lifted in Michigan. This is good news, it means Steve will be able to buy an UP North t-shirt at the hardware store this year!    Grin

Has anyone heard an update on border and travel restrictions between US/Canada? It would be nice to have our Canadian friends join this year...

Back in the early 1980’s I was working at a nuclear plant south of Detroit Michigan. My old buddy Eric Opland was from the Yuper, may he rest in peace. Eric turned 30 and was worried about not being married. We worked on the ground floor of the office next to some windows. In his attempt to find a wife, Eric would sit and watch the women walk by outside the office. Gazing out the window, he said, “She looks like a nice one.” I replied, “Eric it is customary to ask them out and get to know them before you pick one to marry.” One day a girl walked by and Eric said, “She looks like a nice one.” One of the guys said, “She has a mustache!” Eric replied, “I don’t mind a little mustache as long as she keeps it neatly trimmed!” I never did get up to the UP, but I figure if Eric liked it, it must be a good place. Wish I could make it up there to find out for sure. Not this year.
