Trying something different

       Last Saturday-Memorial Day Weekend Sat-instead of ol corn POLLUTED 87 octane I Filled with the cage with 91 Octane PURE GASOLINE. I'm going to run through at least one more tank-about 65 cents More a gallon than 87 corn "enhanced" fuel-and do my due diligence. I Will State now I do Notice better throttle response and cruise control appears to hold better on hills and what not. But I Need a LOT better M P G return to quantify the extra expenditure per gallon. Not Sure BUT I may actually be getting the Full horse power and torque rating this engine was built with. G M 3.8 Non turbo Gen III.

I try to use the Non-Ethanol gas in my Valk, especially in late OCt / - March, when I don't know how long it might be before my next ride. My theory is that no ethanol is better for storage. I haven't noticed much difference in performance / MPG, but it does seem to run better.

I also use the Non-Ethanol in MIL's lawn tractor for mowing. Again, the storage issue.

When I travel to get all my cans filled up with corn-free (for the 21 carburetors at my house), I always top my newer 2017 truck off with corn-free too.  

It doesn't need it, but it sits for long periods with no more than short 20-30 minute drives all the time, so I feel better about it acting like a storage tank than a truck.  It also runs better, and I know I get better mileage, but maybe not more than 2-3mpg.  (I have not done the math)

I have pure gas available to me 7 miles from home. Here, it is $4 a gallon. That is all that I use in all the small engines around the house. It is all that I use in the Valk as well. Only time it sees corn is when I am traveling further than 1 tank will allow.

        I believe there is a website called corn free gas or something like that. I've used the ebsite here at the casa. The station I get the corn free at about 20 miles from the casa. RIDE SAFE.

Have you noticed any difference in how your motorcycle engine runs?

Of course it's just seat of the pants (and not technical proof), but I swear when I honk on it, it has more power.  My test is a long straight entrance ramp onto the freeway, less than a mile from my no-corn station.  Hard roll-ons from mid speeds also seem faster (and more energetic).  

But I cannot say I really notice any difference just tooling around.  

EDIT: This is 87 regular no corn (we don't have premium no corn anywhere I know of).  

I ran premium corn gas a couple times years ago, and got no difference at all in performance, just heard it corroded carbs a bit slower than regular corn gas.  This was before corn free.

I tried 91 non ethanol straight for a few tankfuls way back when and noticed the RPM's at idle were 100-200 rpms more than 87 e-10 gas 10% ethanol.  I calculated mpg normal driving around and saw no noticeable difference in the few tankfuls though.  Not really sure it had more power/hp, but by revving higher rpms it seemed like it just a smidge, but not much any difference really, just higher rpms throughout the power band is all.  If any mpg was better, I would say minimal at best 1/2 mpg better, if that.

If knowing going to let sit for a period of 1 month or more,  I would say beneficial to use 91 NON ethanol gas vs. 87 E-10 gas though.   Paying extra EVERY tankful being about 70 cents per gallon more is not worth it to me if knowing you will be taking cycle out for a spin every few weeks.  However, come October into November,  I use 91 octane NON ethanol last few tankfuls before winter. 

One thing I should do and do others agree?  If not going to ride cycle for say 1 month or so,  we should be shutting the petcock to OFF, agree?     I know some shut off the petcock from ON to OFF after EVERY ride, but doubt many do it.   Thoughts????

I think it does but like Jess from Va., it's purely seat of the pants. I do not have a dyno in the garage. It gets better MPG's for sure. That's a fact! MPG's are of no concern with a motorcycle for me. I'm one of those dweebs that calculates every tank of fuel in my vehicles. I run the pure gas to keep carbs clean and o-rings in tact. I had to do a complete carb service on it in '14. I have no desire to do it again.  I do not get to ride it as often as I like. The extra $ for the pure gas is worth it to me.

Before I changed out my 4 degree trigger wheel back to stock (on interstate), I used to knock a little on regular 87 corn gas, and that went away with 89 mid grade corn gas.  But since the TW change, I just ran 87.  

For two years, neither bike gets anything but no corn, but no longer trips for me in that time.
