Got a set of Avon's a year or so ago and have put on 12,000 miles.

These tires still look good. I have never had a set of bike tires last over 10,000 miles. Is this normal for these tires or cruiser tires in general? I have had everything from endro bikes to sport bikes, standard bikes etc. Never a big bagger.

The Valkyrie is the first big cruiser I have ever owned and I'm not use to tire wear like this. It's a good thing but I have burned out tires much much faster on sport bikes. My wife even said today, don't you need to buy new tires by now? I'm like, "No, I'm good." She doesn't seem to believe me. Basically she spots motorcycle expenses going out of the checking account, She kind of use to yearly or less tires.

Wondering how much mileage are you guys getting out of Avon's?

I like these tires, not cheap but I have said this a hundred times. I would rather spend money on sticky tires that wear out as opposed to ending up in the trees because my high mileage tires didn't stick to the road.  I have ridden the Avon's in heavy rain, gone fast with them, leaned them to the point were I thought I might hit my exhaust. These tires are good all the way around.  Not sure what would scrap first on this bike? Pegs or the truck stack exhaust?

It depends upon how you ride and, more importantly, where you ride.  Some road surfaces wear tires more than others.  Also the inflation pressure used directly impacts tire life.

I run 45 rear and 42 front.  I ride in an area whose roads don't wear dramatically.  I am accustomed to seeing 20,000 or more per tire.

I base the life in the tire on the wear bars rather than mileage.  Well I have on occassion gone well beyond the wear bars.

I don't run near those pressures. I found that 36 front, 40 back is as high as I need to go. If I ran big highway runs I would probably go up a bit but for how I ride low pressures are better for me.

I wear 'em out at six or seven thousand miles. I used to do
it sooner than that before I retired. I used to take the "long
way" to work, down chip-seal farm roads...

There's people in Florida who get 15 or 20 thousand
miles on their rear Avons (or whatever brand)...

Like Willow said, it seems to be all about how and where you ride...

The last year or two they have been repaving many roads around me. I'm traveling on smooth new pavement a lot of the time. The road conditions very well may have to do with the mileage.

I use willows pressures and get great mileage too. My rear has 15K now and still has tread left. BTW: Avon Cobras fr and rear.

Our road conditions are about the same everywhere in Indiana, mediocre at best. I'm at 17,000 mi. on the front Cobra running balance beads @ 38 psi. Hoping to get another 2,000 mi. 15,000 was the limit before on Exedras. About 12,500 on the rear @ 41 psi. Exedra or Cobra w/o balance beads. New Exedra with balance beads on rear now.

Don't overlook the effects of heat and speed. I added TPMS to my F6B and was amazed at how hot the rear tire got, especially at highway (70+) speeds. The front usually stays close to ambient, but the rear easily gets 25 degrees hotter. On really hot days I've seen the rear over 130. The pressure climbs too, often adding 5 to 10 PSI.

TPMS is a great addition for safety. Since punctured tubeless tires tend to develop a slow leak, TPMS usually gives you an early warning, so you can get to a safe place to deal with it. Last year I installed it on my Valkyries as well. While the Valk rears get hot, the increase isn't quite as severe as on the F6B. This could be due to the extra F6B bodywork inhibiting airflow, or the lower air volume of the 60 series tire. That might be why rear tires on my Valks tend to last a little longer.

Pictures below show typical pressures and temperatures I see on a day in the 90s, riding at highway speeds.

I've run AVON tires for over a decade now.  They are quieter and ride smoother.  The new ones are dual durometer with a harder rubber in the middle with a softer compound on the sides for better grip in the corners.  I average 12K on the rear and around 9K up front.  (Tire pressures 40 front 42 rear)(98 standard)
Just spent a week in the W Virginia Canaan valley mountain area and they performed very well. My 2c

I took Bridgestone Exedra off 2 weeks ago and installed
Avon Cobra Chrome.
I liked the smooth handling  of the Bridgestone a lot, but I think they didnt give me very many miles. It seemed like the middle had harder rubber on them as well because the pattern was okay there, but very worn on the sides.
The first day on the Avon Chrome I felt the mid part was harder than the Bridgestone, but now I don't think about it. (Maybe the Bridgestone was same hard when it was new?Wink )
But, yeah, the Avon feels good ( but I guess all tires feel good when new;) )
