Just watched a report on cryptocurrency. Anyone here into that?
The advice is start small, it's considered very high risk but supposedly rewarding if you do it correctly. Oh but, if you get scammed or in some way cheated and paid in cryptocurrency, it's not like a credit card, you have no recourse, your cryptocurrency is gone and never to be returned.

After taking a trip to Las Vegas and not gambling a single cent, I decided to dabble in Crypto a bit in lieu of gambling at a casino...
Put $1,000 into crypto. Watched it go up to $5,000 and decided to pull my initial $1,000 out.
Leaving what's there to ride and see where it goes. It's gotten as high as $7,000, and as low as $2,000. At this exact moment it's at $2,900...
The key, IMHO, to safely dabbling in crypto is to use a reputable exchange (I use Coinbase. If anyone wants to dabble in it lemme send you a referral, use it and we both get a few bucks of free crypto) and don't think of it as an investment, think of it as a trip to a casino...

I did the same as Serk a few years back. But I only put in $400 in 2018 (had to look at the website to see). Today is worth about four times that amount.
I left mine in because I could. One never knows.
It did reach a peak of about 600% value

When obama killed some of the US auto industry. Ford shares dropped to $1 but had cash reserves of about 4 billion $. A friend told me about it and that he had bought 1,000 shares. I invested $20,000 and was putt buckered for a while. Couldn't stand the tension and sold them at $12. Phew. I should have waited longer but.......... I'm not a good investor because l can't stand the tension/worry. Sandra's son dabbles in crypto and has paid for some good vacations for he and his wife with the profits.

I dabbled around short term with $100 or less. May have lost a third of that and bailed out. Now, I guess I need to report this experiment on my taxes, and finding the transaction records will be a bear.
Not for me.

I got in through Coinbase about 4 weeks ago for $100 just to see how it works. Cost 3% to get in and I have been up 6% and down 6% since. I'm at the down 6% now. I have not tried to spend any yet. Has anyone bought anything with it. I use betoline to play poker and they give a bonus to buy in with bitcoin. I just haven't needed to yet.

One of the reasons I'll never be a "rich man" is because, I tend to invest in more secure things. I don't believe this meets that criteria. I tearfully remember "Black Tuesday" of about 40 years ago. It's taken a long time to recover from that and I don't plan on going back. With my luck, I'd invest just before it goes bust.

Damn, you've got a long memory. Black Tuesday was Oct 29, 1929. Now, Black Monday was October 19, 1987.

I haven't invested in Crypto, it just doesn't seem like a wise investment to me. Who knows what the future holds though? I have noticed that my stocks are doing a little better over all. Looks to me like investors might be relaxing a bit on the chance that the Republicans have a chance at reclaiming the Senate and the House. If that's the case I hope liberals will refuse to keep their gains and give them away to a good charity.

The Stock Market folks like it when the Government is balanced and has a hard time making big changes. Like spending/printing billions of dollars of worthless paper. Which, devalues the dollars we already have. So do I. Rams

My initial $1000 investment bet, which went to $5000, I cashed out my initial $1000 so I'd be whole, then watched the remaining $4000 go up to $6000, is now down to $1300.....

Anyone into FTX, just heard they filed for bankruptcy and anyone that "invested" in FTX is screwed.
I consider Cryptocurrency similar to going to Vegas. Some times you win, sometimes you don't.
If, I had any money invested in such currency, I think the smart thing to do is just as Serk has done.
But, I'd be pulling all I could get out before the whole building of cards collapses. Just my opinion, doesn't mean much.

no thanks not for me. I cannot stand the stock market even seeing the more I invest the more it usually goes lower for me in the long run. I guess I will stick with stuffing my home walls with money like my grandparents did. If CD's or money markets ever go back up to 4-6 percent good enough for me. Right now at say 1 percent is hardly worth saving any money in the bank right?

https://www.theblaze.com/news/ftx-sam-bankman-fried-democrats-ukraineJust a piece of the article; Then the FTX collapse happened. Within the span of a few days, FTX co-founder Sam Bankman-Fried – known in the industry as “SBF” – lost nearly all of his $16 billion fortune in what Bloomberg called "one of history’s greatest-ever destructions of wealth." On Friday, the Bahamas-based FTX was forced to file for bankruptcy after $473 million of its funds were stolen in a hack of the cryptocurrency exchange. Customers rushed to withdraw their funds, but it was too late.
