“ The Korean automakers are recalling more than 281,000 vehicles in the U.S. because of the problem, but they haven’t figured out how to fix it yet. The automakers reported 25 fires or melting incidents in the U.S. and Canada caused by the problem, but no crashes or injuries.”

“The recalls cover more than 245,000 Hyundai Palisade and over 36,000 Kia Telluride SUVs from the 2020 through 2022 model years.”

“ In documents posted Tuesday by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the companies said debris and moisture can accumulate in a circuit board in the tow hitch wiring. That can cause an electrical short, which can lead to a fire.”

this might put a slight damper on vehicle sales since both larger 7 seater SUV's are rated in the top 3 right now for larger sized SUV's.

I had the millions of hyundai/kia recall for the 2.0 and 2.4L engines.  I got a new engine out of it at around 86K miles although the knock sensor installed by the Hyundai dealer few months prior to all the issues am thinking caused the whole issue since had 86K miles of trouble free driving prior.   I was very reluctant to get the engine put in for free since the 'limp' mode and diagnosis happened 1500 miles away from home near Tennessee by a dealer never knew anything about.  They did a good job (I think) now 20K miles later except two things they forgot I noticed ASAP was the air filter box was NOT on very well totally loose barely connected and they overfilled the darn oil crankcase by 1 full quart.  That last one was super upset about took it in to local Hyundai dealer showed them both problems and they agreed to inspect entire engine for free to see what else they messed up and refill the oil all over again fresh.

I had the same issue with 156k on my Santa Fe 700 miles from home. Dealer got me a rental for a month, brought me my car and now it shows 234k on my SantaFe. Only thing I’m concerned with now is my transmission. I’ve usually always put one in by 210k miles previously on any vehicle. I’d by a Hyundai again with the way they took care of me.  smitten

knock on wood hope my sonata lasts over 200K as well if it does got my 17.7K out of purchase price new in 2014.   Agree,  most, not all, Hyundai dealers have treated me well and most say Honda/Toyota are best, but sometimes that is not the case either.  Good customer service at dealers (or anywhere) nowadays is getting harder to find.

Have you changed your transmission fluid as suggested around 100K miles?  I have done 1 of the 2 hyundai's but the way the change is done on these engines is you only get about 3/4ths of the fluid out is all not all of it at once.   Some say do another tranny fluid change say 10-20K miles afterwards to get more OLD oil out, not sure it is needed?

I just had to have the oil pressure switch replaced at 71,000 miles on my 2016 Sportage. The light would come on sporadically at idle. The first attempt at diagnosis was a Kia service bulletin about “aftermarket “ oil filters causing the light to come on at idle. So the changed the oil and put a OEM oil filter on. Didn’t make it home before the light came on again at idle. Turned around went straight back. Oh we got a code this time. So they changed out the oil pressure switch. $ 225. 20.00 part. So far so good.

They don't mention that it's the key started ones. Thankfully, wife's Kona is push button start.

guess I am lucky as well since have a 2014 hyundai sonata TOO OLD since is for 2015 sonata's and newer as one of the easy to steal vehicles.

Hyundai and Kia are also having a problem with their gas engines in certain vehicles.

My son's 2019 Elantra threw a rod at 85k miles.

The local dealer alone has over 100 vehicles in their service department that have done the same thing.

yah,  the 2.0 and 2.4L 4 cylinders being their bread and butter engine in a large range of cars and SUV's is troubling indeed.  They seem fine until that 80-120K range and then all of a sudden,  NO good.  Hope the dealer stands behind the 100K powertrain warranty.    I was told that since had a 'new' engine put in at 86K due to recall,  if the same thing happens again I can get another 'free' engine lifetime warranty, but really do not want to find out.  If I get another 90K making 200K miles,  I will be happy.  Other stories have heard is the new engine has bumper to bumper on it for ONLY 12K miles which is long gone for me now.  IMO if new engine should get another 6/100K warranty on the engine.
