99 Interstate. Discovered the speedometer light has gone out.

You would think that in all of the internet universe there would be a helpful video on the simple things one has to do to replace such a bulb.

But nada.

It's been a while since I've done any such work on the bike and just wanting a kind of tutorial to help me along.

Thanks

Mike, I know this may not help you, BUT I did replace the bulb without taking the fairing off.  I took off the left speaker panel, the reached in and found the bulb that needed to be replace.  Pulled it out and replaced it with a good one.   took a bit, but as easier than taking off the windshield and rolling the fairing out.  Someone many years ago posted that was the way they did it.  AND, no don't remember the number of the bulb.  There is now a LED replacement.   I do have fairly large hands.

If I remember correctly , the LED bulb is directional.  Meaning , positive power goes to positive pole.
The first LED I installed would not work. Turned it 180 and itlit. I may be wrong and I know someone will flog me.  crazy2 crazy2

This may help some. These are pictures of the back of the instrument module removed from the bike. At least if you are trying to reach around and do it blind, you will have an idea of what you are doing.

Back of the speedo

Rubber cover plug removed

Carrier and rubber cap removed. The carrier is a bayonet mount, about 1/4 turn CCW to remove.

Bulb removed. It is a mini wedge. Pulls straight out.

Screenshot of CF Bulb chart from the Rattlebars schematic diagrams. Has bulb listed as a T-1 3/4, Mini Wedge. 74 or 70 bulb listed as replacement.

I changed my bulbs to LED's a while back, I don't think I could have done it blind by reaching in around the dash panel. A little more work but easy enough to remove the fairing. Like said above, if they don't work you have to flip them 180 degrees.
