I took my '98 Tourer out for a spin yesterday. Went about 20 miles. When I got back to the garage I reached down to shut the fuel off and discovered it was already off. I had never turned it on! What is going on with this petcock?
Thanks.

Assuming you have an OEM petcock I'd recommend inspecting and testing the petcock.  Sounds like you may be due for a cover set or replacement with a pingle.   If fuel is flowing with it in the off position you certainly at risk of hydrolock so be mindful.

Could be a failed petcock but also could be that the petcock wasn't actually turned off.  It must be placed into the precise position that it clicks into the off notch to be actually off.

Mine did that years back. Then the vacuum side failed and I did the cover set. It was fine for a little while until the switch became more problematic. Replaced with a Pingel and it’s been perfect for years now. I am planning on installing an electric fuel switch and then I’ll never have to turn the valve off manually again

I put a Pingle on mine.  But I am used to using manual fuel valves.  Yes......I am "old school".

But I found at my age, "old school" ALWAYS seems to work!!   Unlike all these "new fangled" things they come up with, in attempts to make everything "hands free".   Or to try and make it "Idiot proof"!!  I LOVE the "KISS" way of doing things!

Same here. Alway shut off the petcock for 51 yrs. Old habits die hard.  Smiley Pingle is the best after market. There a manual conversion from another Honda thus keeping it original look but from my research its a Interstate conversion but...
