Serk back in the hospital. Admitted about 18 hours ago. My understanding is infection associated with the drain. Remember him and Tarynn in your prayers.

Do they make hospital beds that long?

Best wishes for him. I hope it's not too serious.

Hope you're feeling better soon.  Be sure to get up and pee when the nurse tells you to.  There are repercussions.

dang, 5 hr surgery is pretty long one for sure.  glad u pulled thru with flying colors.

rest up and try not to look at those in 20's cute nurses so much.    Been there, done that....

I was laid up last year 4 full days in hospital with diverticulitis, but luckily no emergency surgery needed to remove foot of colon that first night there at the ER, slight tear of the colon healed up on it's own, at least for now.  Surely sucks watching TV doing NOTHING in hospital bed hooked up 4 full days with IV's.  Worst part besides the constant jabs of needles, was trying to get out of bed to pee with the IV's in both arms and cords all over trying to walk to the poddy.   1st time ever ambulance ride and to ER, not want to make it a 2nd but am sure one day will be, hope not soon.

Sorry to hear you’re where you are but hope you’re out real soon.

Get well and get home. 5 hours of surgery is rough so take the time to mend properly to get back on your feet.

Best of wishes to you.

I've been in contact with Serk, but mostly through his wife, Tarynn.  He said it's too painful for him to type.  He's had a complication and is in ICU.  From what I've gathered from Tarynn, he's leaking bile into his abdominal cavity, but they have not been able to find the leak on his imaging studies.  They moved him to ICU when his lactate levels kept rising, which is an indication of sepsis.  Anyway, he likely developed peritonitis bc of the leak, which resulted in sepsis.

So, please send your positive mojo, thoughts, prayers, etc, etc.

Good news!  Serk is out of ICU.  They still didn't locate the leak, but they think it's a small leak in the duodenum.  The drainage has slowed and they think it may close without opening him up.  He is responding well to antibiotics and is lactate level is 1.2 (normal in less than 2).   cooldude
