Hello everyone. I just recently bought a 99 interstate. and I have a problem. I have a size 16 shoe and I am having a hard time shifting. my foot won't fit in-between the valve cover and the shifter.

does anyone have a suggestion that I can resolve this issue?

I thought about getting a piece of pvc and sliding it onto the shifter knob and "extending" it.

thanks in advance

The shifter from a CB1100 has been known to extend the shifter out and up a bit. Another solution is to cut/grind off the peg from the shifter. Drill a hole and mount an aftermarket shifter from Kuryakin and you could add a spacer to move the shifter out a bit.

No matter what you do make sure you get and install the Shifter Buddy if you extend the shifter. Here's a link to a post I originated. I installed the Shifter Buddy and I'm really glad I did.  My Interstate shifts a lot smoother and no more shifter slop. It's sold by SCAIN who is a member of the VRCC and you can message him or do a search on FaceBook.

The shift lever is adjustable up and down.  Just unscrew it, pull it off the shaft and put it back where you want it to be.  Yes, a CB1100 shifter can help also.

Move the shift lever on the splines first.  (I scratched a small line across the output shaft and the lever as a benchmark of where I started, before moving it around).

If that doesn't do it, get a bigger/longer shift rubber to work (the peg on all model Valks was too small, even for small feet).

Until I went with heel-toe shifters (which would be a problem with #16 foot/boot), I made my own longer peg (and stiffened it up somehow, since it was longer than the lever supported).  It was a long time ago.

Don't you want to move it down a bit to give more room between the lever and the valve cover?

Maybe someone will add to this... seems like a nighthawk shifter could be used, giving more room at the peg. (has an offset shape?)

the cb1100 shifter is also longer so the rubber will be closer to the footpeg.

I usually have several CBR1100XX shifters for sale, I also the make of the Shifter Buddy.
The CBR1100XX Shifter has an offset which brings it out a bit away from the motor, where the OEM shifter does not have an offset.
Send me an email @ scain1520@yahoo.com and I will send you a picture of the two shifters side by side if you are interested.
Thx
