ICE Controversy...

Talk about a 'hot topic'! Yet another hugely divisive issue for the public about which to get their panties in a wad... I'm beginning to think it's more like a ‘Gordian Knot’ than simply something with which to patiently apply sound reason and logic. Nope, having such an issue itself appears to be the point with no attempt at ‘just’ solutions or accommodations leading to consensus anywhere to be observed. I might as well weigh-in and offer my own thoughts, too...

First, I'm not opposed to ICE at all, as I do figure it's necessary in the broad scheme of things. A natural feature in the ongoing evolution of our planetary hydrosphere; one that serves a useful function indispensable in maintaining the delicate balance of life sustaining moisture's broad distribution. I wouldn't have us do away with it at all; although, I must confess I typically do not particularly enjoy its presence whenever I personally come into contact.

It must be said that having lived most of my life in Florida, and twelve years of living south of a town named Frostproof, that does leave this meteorological novice with comparatively little first-hand experience to inform opinions. Still, I am quite familiar generally with unpleasantness and discomfort sufficiently to know when I like and don't like something at first contact.

I also have enough life experience to know that simply avoiding immediate discomfort or virtue-signaling are not necessarily reliable decision-making tools. There are times when a little pain is necessary to excise something else with longer term potential to cause far greater overall harm, pain, possibly even death! The issue isn't 'either or'; rather, it's careful, objective consideration of issues and longer-term implications, then the making of sound decisions regardless of how they might make us feel at the moment.

The temperatures here in south Alabama at my current temporary sabbatical from our ongoing coddiewomple are unpleasant for yours truly to be sure. Nothing like what others might be experiencing, of course, but plenty uncomfortable for this delicate blossom! You can bet the farm I will not be considering emigration to Greenland or any other similar area where future development might tempt some folks in search of… whatever… You can, however, dependably rely upon the fact I’m glad they are there.

My advice to you is you should put on a g-string and stand by the road and protest the ice and cold. Folks would likely put dollar bills in your g-string either hoping you stop or encouraging you to keep going. This way you'd be a paid protester as well. IF YOU START TODAY, You would need to continue for at least 6 more weeks and I'm sure you will be successful. If you don't it might be an early spring but you'll make no money. I bet a bunch here would pay to watch, so that is the incentive.

My current ICE situation is now officially a solid week old. I’m not talking packed snow, I’m talking official verified ice. My neighbor must have reached his limit today. His seemingly official handyman showed up this morning with a pic axe and started swinging. I’m not there yet even though my 4x4 truck had a problem navigating my sloped driveway yesterday. As I backed out of the garage, I applied the brakes and continued going backwards, shifting to drive didn’t particularly stop the backward movement but added a sideways transition. It wasn’t until I slid off the ice covered concrete that I had any traction or directional control at all. Once I was in my yard with all four wheels was the truck amble to break through the ice and I made my way to the street which has been cleared for days now. I haven’t had mail delivery for a week which is no big loss but my trash pick up service finally came this morning.

I have power, I have heat, I have food, both frozen and fresh, the internet is still streaming, what more could I ask for while surrounded by ice and snow?

Sorry to learn of your iceboundedness

What frosted my toes here at home was that we had a water pipe break in the
street just two doors from my home

So we had no water for days  and ice flow in the street right in front of my house making walking to the mailbox an adventure.

Fortunately I was able to shovel out to the hot tub as it was just 2feet of snow accumulated there and I filled numerous gallon water bottles for use in the toilet ( 1 gal flush = 1 bottle)
Also helped my neighbor out as he has 2 young girls and well, they need to go when they need to go

fortunately Bonnie was visiting her parents, my son and 2 of my grandsons in Seattle so she was not impacted at all.

The work finished before I had to pick her up yesterday evening in Newark NJ   Town said no need to boil water so I did not do so
