Honestly, I felt I have accomplished more riding there every year since 06 then I did when I trailered in 02. You really appreciate it more. Its hard to explain unless you do it. Its only 1100 miles from here in NE Ind. We do it in 2 nights and 2 days. It gets easier every year. Last year was a breeze. We take our time and when we get to camp we relax and get ready to ride the week. The bitch is riding home. Its not the bikes fault, it ours. Getting to bed around 3a and up at 8a every day takes its toll. Your right valkmc. You meet alot of people on the road. We sat and talked to a GW couple in Iowa for 2 hours at a ice cream stand. They were headed home to SD from Fl. It was nice. MRune, it always looks like rain out there! Where are you staying? We meet up with other Valks while we are there. Maybe we'll see ya there. I'll be in my tank top. No shorts tho, they look awfull with my high top boots!

Fudgie, the wife and I with our Runes will be cabin'ed up at Creekside Campground Aug 7,8 and 9th. It's just around the corner and north of the Full Throttle Saloon on Hwy 79, if memory serves me. Seems like there's a dragstrip straight across 79 from the entrance to the campground. We always have our eyes peeled for other Runes and Valks. You'd be willing to hang with a trailer using poser?

My take on pulling a bike or riding a bike. If you going to ride 1200 to 1500 miles to sit around and shoot the sh*# with other bikers, fine , ride that sucker. If you are to a "RIDE" event of many miles, then pull that sucker. I.E. My son and I pulled our bikes to Colorado, about 1,200 miles, and rode another 1,200 to 1,400 miles in Colorado and Utah. Besides there is nothing to see from Central Ky. and Colorado, so why wear your ass out getting to someplace so you can ride and look at "things" That`s my story and you know the rest.

I've been attending Bikeweek off and on for the last 30 years and the 2010 Daytona Bikeweek may turn out to be the lowest attendance in that time frame. Trailer parking might be a new growth & profit center for the local residents.
Restaurants that I've been eating at are way down. I've never seen so many 'Vacancy' signs; almost all the hotels have rooms available. We've stayed in the fish camps in Astor, 30 miles west of town; we've stayed in Flagler Beach; we've stayed in St Augustine because most hotels-motels had a 3-4 night minimum at jacked up rates. And we go for the ride anyway.
This year, we got a great downtown hotel, 4th floor, beach side for one day at a time and the owners were pleased that we were staying with the, covered parking and all. We stayed the weekend. There were many vacant lots filled with trailers, from all over the country; most from New York or Quebec. Weather didn't help either. Cool Friday and Sunday, rained some on Saturday, but that didn't keep us from being in the wind.
Cold, so what! Saw the normal strange stuff. Not much skin, unless I count the bare-chested, beer bellied guy standing on a corner on Main Street, plus a few guys riding in shorts and T-shirts. The most unusual sight was Saturday evening, parked up on the sidewalk on Main Street, my brother-in law hunting T-shirts for his daughter; the ONLY bikes on Main Street were parked on the sidewalk! There was absolutely nothing moving - a totally empty street. Sure beats being home or at work though!

A buddy was between bikes when the South Padre Island bike fest was coming up. He wanted to go so he rented a Harley V-rod from a bike shop in Corpus Christi. (he never told me how much that cost!) When he got there they had it on a trailer ready for him to hook up to his truck and go.
After the w/e he was on his way back, bike in tow on the trailer, and he said a group of bikers past him up and the last bike cut right in front of him - real close. The biker had a T-shirt on that said "Nice trailer, Pu$$y"
My buddy just shrugged his shoulders and said “what could I say?”

No problem on my end! We are leaving noonish on the 4th and should be there noonish on the 6th. Getting married on the 9th and heading to MT on the 11th. Be back home the following Sat. We're staying at exit 36. Should another HD and Valk riding with us.

We're staying at exit 36. ??? I'm not sure where that is. Would that be 4 mi further west than Junction Ave (exit 32), or 4 mi back east? It would help if I could remember proper mapping etiquette. Getting married? You'll have to come by our cabin and help yourself to a couple cold ones on us in congratulations to that one. (another benefit to trailering is you can take along a much bigger ice chest for certain beverages to chill in once you get there, with fewer trips for ice and beer)

The last exit before Sturgis exit 32. There is only 3 or 4 campgrounds on it, thats it. We usually buy a foam cooler when we get there. I drink whiskey so it dont have to be cold. I'm sure we can hook up out there. Creekside, is that right by Bear Butte?

Yes, at least, I think so. -Definitely, yes. I can get that one from the online map at least. Googlemaps can be a great tool sometimes. Creekside is just after hwy 79 turns north, and before Bear Butte. The driveway is on the East side of hwy 79. I have got to quit looking at that map before I leave work, go home and pack already. August is still a long ways away. (Now-a-days, I gotta stick with soda. DIET soda at that! That hasn't slowed anyone around me down yet.)

Never made it to that side of town last year.

Glad to hear you are working Charlie.
I 'll be going back to work onthe 8th of this month.
Doctor's had me on the wrong Medicine and now I am fine.
My buddy Greg told me it could be the meds keeping me down and sure enough switched myself to a
81 mg aspirin, instead of the Plavix and now I can breath and almost totlally out of pain in my chest.
Had to take the Bull By the Horns .
They may chew me out at the Cardiac Care Place but my family Doctor is fine wiht it until they repair
the hole in my heart. On May 12th.

What the Heck Al. It's only 380 miles now instead of 1100. Are you guys going to think I'm a wimp or something for not riding as far. Damn, there I go again.
OBTW, there is a lot to self medicating. When I was getting ready for my Chemo and Radiation treatments, I had to remind the Doctors that L was the CEO, President, and Owner of this body. I made all the final decisions and they were my PAID consultants. It was amazing how we worked as a team instead of being a patient. Hurry up and that thing fixed.

i think most of you know my position on trailiering i still average WAY MORE MILES ON MY BIKE....than i do miles trailering. to me, that's what matters. i ride LOTS on great roads around here. i ride LOTS when i get to whatever place/event/destination i'm going to. Getting THERE.......is just a necessary "evil" best "experienced" in the seat of a truck...with all the luxuries, storage, dryness, etc....that come with said truck/seat. I'll do my riding (and LOTS of partying)...when i get where i'm going. i respect others that feel the ride there is what matters to them. All i ask, is respect those of us who have a different perspective.......... mutual respect and understanding ....ya' know........ after all, why should it matter to me...OR YOU....what someone rides, whether they trailer there...what kind of bike they own.........what kind of oil they use........what kind of tires.........and on and on and on..........

Exactly Tim,
When I was making fun of the Trailer People riding to Daytona last year.
I had rode trhrougha life threatening rain storm that lasted about a hundred miles.
Then a dust storm stirred up beyond the rain storm.
Then suvived Tornado Warnings( That means theres probably one on the ground nearby)
Then it got cold and there was no going back home on the bike, due to the fact it was snowing
in Atlanta and north ward.
That was the same storm those guys were lost at sea and only one guy survived, that played Pro Football and College and
they were out fishing. off the coast of Fla..
By the time I got back I was wishing for either a trailer or just fly down to Daytona and rent a bike
next time.
But by golly I rode it once through the worst of conditions and by myself .
It was like a quest and I did not think at times I was going to make it.
No not because of the bike but because of the weather.
I understand why some trailer and no I don't care how you get to the ride along as you get there safely.
Thanks
AL
