Just in case any of you care to envy my bike, a 2000 Interstate, with trigger wheel installed.

Date          Mileage   Miles          Fuel           MPG
4/28/2010   80455   178.8    4.512    39.62765957

4/29/2010   80824   152.0           3.939    38.58847423
4/29/2010   80998   173.9           4.386    39.64888281

4/30/2010   81206   84.5           1.748    48.3409611
5/2/2010   81334   128.3    3.570    35.93837535

5/2/2010   81610   159.1    4.602    34.57192525
5/3/2010   81781   179.6    4.503    39.88452143
5/3/2010   81982   201.0    4.862    41.34101193

Totals:                 1713.9          43.585   39.32316164

Formatting may look screwy, but I was only after the mileage, not beauty.

No envy here. 03 standard with I/S ICM and 4 degree trigger wheel. 40 to 42 is normal and I ride it like I stole it.
For the record it will generally out accelerate an I/S @ highway speed......Never tried it from a standing start.

Where do I get one of those trigger wheel thingamabobs.

Can I install it myself?

Will you be jealous?

Does Joe have one?

Will Gordon want one?

Thanks

Honda Direct Line http://www.hondadirectlineofshadyside.com/stores/product.asp?pid=1903&str=2&ID=447184865

Supposedly easy to install if you are careful.  I had mine done in a shop before I had put a wrench on it myself just after I got the bike.

What was your average speed?  Were you riding mostly super-slab or back roads?

I took I-20 and I-75 the whole way and the best I got was 34 mpg.  On the way back, with a MAJOR head wind and running 80 mph the whole way, I got 29 mpg.

Just wondering if riding conditions (speed/head wind) or trigger wheel contribute to the difference in our mileage.

Mostly super-slab.  I-20, I-59, I-10 and mostly speed limit +/- 5 mph.  Tried holding about 72 indicated for the most part, but you know how the interstates can go.

I'm jealous. My calculator doesn't give those high of numbers when I add up my mpg's. What does that trigger wheel thing do to make it possible to go 80+ mph and get 40 mpg

How advancing the timing impacts MPG is beyond me.  I always thought people ran trigger wheels for HP gains - not for mileage gains.

Eric - I usually fill up/hit empty around 160 - 170 miles, too.  However, the head wind was so strong on the way back that I hit empty at 140!

i have 6 degree TW on my 97 Tourer. It did SLIGHTLY increase my gas mileage....but...i still get more like 32-35. If i ride it hard...more like 30-33. once in a "blue moon"...riding in a group...real slow...maybe 35-38.

i'd say i average about 32-33. but again, it's a LITTLE better....with the TW. The 6 degree supposedly gains you a LITTLE HP and torque. I can go a LITTLE further on a tank of gas than before. BUT........i now have to run 89 Octane. Before the TW, i could run just 87 octane with no problems.........

it's a tradeoff ...for me........about even...........but i like going a LITTLE further on a tank of gas......

I consistently run over 200 on a tank without hitting reserve.

 Shocked Shocked Shocked

WHAT WHAT WHAT?! 200!  Holy never-stopping Valk, Batman!

So - what's your secret?  Do you attribute this abnormality to the trigger wheel, your riding style, or something else?

Combination of trigger wheel, speed and right wrist.

The first day I owned the Interstate driving from Colorado Springs to Austin, Texas:

7/1/2007   25582      132.1   5.828    22.66643789
7/1/2007   25722      140.4   4.795    29.28050052
7/1/2007   25860      137.5   5.474    25.11874315
7/1/2007   25977      116.7   5.105    22.85994123
7/1/2007   26125      148.2   5.831    25.41588064
7/1/2007   26235      110.3   4.681    23.56334117
7/1/2007   26309      73.7   2.692    27.37741456

I was probably running well over posted limits.

Trigger wheel added after this trip.

Doggone! Talk about night and day. I believe it I just think no 2 valks are the same. What is the reason to switch from 87 octane to 89 with the trigger 6 degree trigger wheel?

Wizard and I rode with Early Bird on the Cheaha trip.  I track my mileage, Wizard doesn't.  But we did notice that I generally took less fuel at each fillup, about 1/2 gallon less in 100 miles.

With a 2000 standard (converted to tourer) with a standard tank, I filled up more often than Early Bird.  This was "2K"s first trip, and pretty much the first miles on her since she joined the stable and got herself painted and ready to roll.

On the way to Cheaha, I show the following MPG at fillup:

34.938;  40.310;  37.638;  38.128;  35.928;  41.469;  35.754;  31.692;  37.223;  46.417  for an average of 37.950

On the way home (in the rain) I had:

35.264;  34.626;  35.550;  31.799;  28.645;  35.139;  34.608;  42.229;  37.118  averaging 34.964

Not bad on an unfamiliar bike!
