This is a tough one for me... On the one hand, yes, it is highly distasteful to built a Mosque that close to Ground Zero... (Big Al - It's not ON Ground Zero, it's a few hundred feet from it.)

But on the other hand... My Libertarian side says if they can raise the funds to do so and meet all legal requirements to build their structure there, then they should be allowed to do so, it's not the government's role to decide such things on privately owned property... (Or at least, it SHOULDN'T be the government's role...)

Now, that's not to say I'd be happy about it, or to say I wouldn't support a boycott of any company that gave them one red cent for their efforts, but that doesn't mean it's the government's place to stop them either...

And another thing--BF, you are completely right.  The Muslims do build their Mosques on other's holy ground.  The Temple Mount in Jerusalem was built on the Southwest corner on the second Israeli Temple of Herrod.  It was believed that many ancient Judeo and Christian artifacts and antiquities lie under their f*****g Mosque.  Rumor has it that the Islamic cultural authority is digging up the land under the Temple Mount and destroying any signs of Christian and Judaic artifacts, essentially erasing any signs and proof of other presence in the area before them.

Any religion is a way of life.  Yes, the First Amendment establishes a law that allows anyone to practice their religion, or way of life, as they see fit.  It obviously does not extend that right to directly infringe on other peoples right to do the same.

"as they see fit".....but NOT where they see fit.  There is a church trying to build a church with a school next to my development and has been fought tooth and nail since they bought the land.  The opposition include the 3 surrounding developments as well.  The main reason why people in the area are against it is 1) there are too many non-tax-paying "religious" entities in the area already, 2) traffic, 3) land use issues (not exactly sure what all this entails).  They have been fighting this for 10 years now.

May not be a bad idea at least it will be alot harder to restrict where they go, and of course if they tax mosques too. Not to mention taxing all donations great idea that way the US that supports 85 percent of charity programs will stop giving or cut back and then the programs will dry up then they will turn to government. Thats a great idea. The government cant budget what they get now so lets take the idea that adding more taxes instead of dishing out some financial responsibility to government would be a good idea.
