I have read the threads on here about brake pads.

I am getting ready to change my tires and brake pads and fluids.

I guess my question is between Honda OEM pads and EBC pads

I read on here how the EBC pads wil make a noise on Honda rotors.

In fact when I put EBC pads on my rear, they made a noise.  But it has been a couple thousand miles and either my hearing is geting bad or do not hear as much noise, if any.

Today I called the local Honda shop (Pensacola) they told me all they had was EBC pads.

So what are you all doing .. running EBC pads .. does the noise really go away.
Changing the rotors to match the pads.

Just for background. I am 52 years old. I have a 2000 standard with 13,xxx mile.

Welcome to the forum.

I am no expert on this (and I'm sure someone else will chime in), but the consensus seems to be that EBC pads will damage the OEM rotors.

You can purchase the genuine Honda pads (recommended) online or various other aftermarket pads online.

EBC likes the rotors changed along with the pads.. Most Honda stores only stock EBC which doesn't seem to make a lot of sense, but, many things don't make any sense to me any more.. I have the store order the OEM pads..

If you've found posts on this subject from Valkpilot, this will be repetitive.

If you haven't found his posts, they go something like this:  Do NOT mix Honda & EBC brake pads and rotors.  EBC pads will eat Honda rotors.  EBC rotors will eat Honda pads.

Thanks for the replies. Stuff like this makes my head hurt.
Seems like the dealer should stock Honda parts.

They wanted $32.00 for the EBC pads.

From more reading and your replies, I will order pads online. The first place I checked
Hondaparts_direct.com wants $44.00. I see people mention ordering from HDL, I did a search and not sure what that site is.

Also is there a list of parts I should get when doing the tires and brakes. Like O rings any clips and pins that my need replaced after 10 years.

from my various posts.
http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,8482.0.html
first off the valkyrie does not use metallic pads, it uses sintered bronze pads, big difference when it comes to wear of the rotors esp. stainless steel rotors. With Iron rotors u would be correct but not for the valkyrie. Sintered pads also often exceed the braking of organic pads in the wet and out perform any organic pad for maximum initial braking esp. the new HH pads. The only organics that can meet the braking of sintered pads are race organics, however they need lots of heat to do it. Not something or time to do on the street when somebody cuts into your lane. Organics have a low initial bite.
to read more see below.

good explanation of why EBC cause problems, it has to do with the torque curve of the pads
http://www.sportbikes.net/forums/general-sportbikes/384441-brake-pads.html
Different brake pads have different torque curves... the coefficient of friction changes as you both heat the pads, and as you increase lever pressure. That being the case, some pads literally 'run hot' under light loads... having a high coefficient of friction from the get-go and a flat torque curve... meaning the friction co-efficient changes as you exert increasing amounts of pressure. EBC pads are an excellent example of such a pad.

Vesrah makes most OEM pads. The stock valkyrie pads are HH pads as are the Vesrah replacements.
vesrah shows them the same size backing plate, just thicknesses are different. Ferodo shows the same also. 8.2 mm is stock thk front,  9.6 mm is the max that will fit from what I have been told, in fact this thk is all that ferodo imports into USA. rear is 10.3 mm, don't know if they will squeeze in or not. I just ordered the vesrah 9.6mm for my bike from denniskirk, haven't instl them yet. they are HH pads and highly rated.

Replacing brake pads at 13,000 miles. Were the pistons sticking or some other problem ?  Just curious.

Thanks for the replies.

I ordered the front brake pads online. $85.03 shipped. I wonder if there is any chance they will be here by this weekend?

Challenger - To tell the truth, my rear tire went flat a few weeks ago. And thought I should just go ahead and get a new one. And since I was doing the rear, go ahead and put on new pads.

I read a lot of post on here to help decide what tires to get. I ended up getting the metzeler ME880's

I also downloaded a maintenance PDF file from here, and plan on doing all the fluids.
I might even try to do the air filter ... I am betting it is the original ....
