Next time you have the tank off, pull the petcock out and solder on a brass piece long enough to match the length of the OEM tube. You just have to measure from the same "reserve" openings in both and cut the tubing accordingly. You can get the tube needed from a hobby shop, they sell different diameter fuel lines for model planes, cars, etc.
Here's what it will look like when done, and when you lay it next to an OEM it's nearly a perfect match in length and my reserve is increased to match. You just can't use the internal filter, have to replace it with an inline which a lot of us are doing anyway. With my I/S tank I seldom run that close anyway, my butt doesn't get the same mileage between tanks as the bike does.
