For those coming in from the East.  Interstate 10 is known for being a crappy freeway, but now they've made it worse   Angry   Around Baytown, Texas they've closed it down to one lane in each direction.  This past weekend my driving buddy said the backup was 8 miles long. Backup here is defined as moving 5-15 mph.  To avoid this I would get off I-10 in Beaumont and take College St. exit (Highway US 90)  to the west.  This is a decent roadway, although not a freeway.  Traffic usually moves well.  Small towns along the way, and the occasional speed trap  police  (sorry Brian).  Stay on this road to Beltway 8 on the east side of Houston, and go South.  Part of the Beltway is a tollroad, but it moves (usually very fast traffic,,refer to NiteRiderF6's previous posts regarding this)   uglystupid2.   Take this south until it meets Interstate 45 (Gulf Freeway), and go south.  At this point refer to Hotglue's map on which exit to take.  You won't be more than several miles from your exit.  Mapquest Beaumont Texas to view map if needed.   Good luck, and we'll see ya' there. !!

We drove out that way this weekend.
We caught 99 east of Baytown, right by East side Honda, Gene's Polaris, JT Cycles.... coming from the east.  It will eventually be a toll road, but it is not one yet.  Nice road. Go south on 99, will bring ya right up to hiway 146, go south on 146,  to the shipchannel bridge.  Free bridge.... go over it....Stay in the right lane, ...catch 225 west to the Beltway 8 ..Take beltway south.. You will catch 1 toll...$1.50.... take it to I-45 south, and you are 1 exit away...
