Getting ready to store the Valk one last ride. Ran fine upto the problem.

Would not start or turnover at all. Lights on, headlamp dims when starter button pushed. Thought it was the battery. Tried jumping, no go. Brought the battery home and put it on the charger it said 90%.

What do you guys think is going on?

a battery can show 12 volt or full charge with no load on it..check the voltage on the battery while pressing the start button..or you may have a bad start button. and it needs cleaned.

Check ground connections from the battery to the engine block.........remove the right side cover and look at at the starter solinoid.......how much time between last time it ran and the "problem"  if several hours then Id remove the spark plugs and manually turn over the engine just as a precaution against hydrolock............

I had the identical problem this spring.  The battery checked out fine, and all fuses good.  It turned out to be corrosion inside my starter.  I found that while depressing the starter switch, I could tap the base of the starter with a blunt object, it would turn over and start.  A rebuild on the starter corrected the problem.  The mechanic indicated that the previous owner had probably power-washed the bike, getting moisture into the starter, thus creating corrosion. I had no warning this was coming, it just happened.  Good luck!

Classic start switch symptoms.  Sometimes you can cycle the switch several times with the power off and that will clean the contacts enough to get it started and get you home.

If no, then probably starter switch button.  I would follow the advise Chrisj gave you just to be sure though.  Take all the plugs out and try it and see if it will turn over.  Do it outside in case there is fuel in one of the cylinders.  You don't want it spraying around inside your garage if this is the problem.  If it still will not turn over then you took a precaution for nothing and didn't hurt anything.

Just for giggles and grins did you try to push start it. If it starts you'll know it is electrical and not mechanical.

I had a similar problem.  It was a internal ground in the battery.  It was a 6 month old battery.

See Link:
http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,21179.0.html

I didn't think it was the battery because it was new .
I had 12+ voltage on the battery but when I took it out and had it check I had zero amperage.

As said before try to jump start it or hook it to a known good battery and see if it will start.
