But the most fun was taking my bud's old Model A out to the lake after it froze over. It had the top cut off, we put chains on it and would make a run for the edge of the ice from a boat ramp. Just as it hit the ice my buddy would spin the steering wheel and we would go round and round halfway across the lake.
My dad used to tell me tales about doing exactly that - they'd go to the junk yard, buy the cheapest carcass of a car they could find (no motor, etc), sometimes for just a couple bucks (he was born in '27). They'd have to push the car to the lake, and up the hills surrounding the lake. No boat ramps. He also told me that they had to have at least partially working brakes, that added to the fun. He told me there's at least a half-dozen cars, sitting on the bottom of the lakes in the Kenosha, Wisconsin area.
Thanks for the memories!
