That made me go look up Pearl S. Buck, a name everyone knows, but I realized I didn't know anything about her.

According to what I read that picture is "The Sydenstricker House"...

The Sydenstricker house was the birthplace of Pearl's father,Dr. Absalom Sydenstricker, Presbyterian missionary to China for his entire adult life. The original log section is a museum for Sydenstricker items and the period 1834-1880. The house was built in 1834 by Andrew Sydenstricker, who married Frances Coffman on January 16, 1834 and became the father of nine children, including Absalom. Five of Andrew's sons became ministers, four Presbyterian and one Methodist.

Coffman rings a bell  uglystupid2 now I need to go look up that genealogy information my Mother worked up...

EDIT: I just called my Aunt Jean... she says there's a place called Coffman Hill down by the river, I probably remember someone
talking about that...

RE-EDIT: Aunt Jean just called back, sure enough, there's a Frances Coffman in the family tree... probably a different one... ours is this one...

The lady at Thompson's gave me the name and number of another hotel in town.  It is called Star Hotel (they also have a restaurant on site).  I just got off the phone with them and got a queen room for $65 per night.  She said they still have several rooms available there, most are queen rooms, but they do have some rooms that have 2 beds in them.  The phone number for them is (304) 358-3580.  She told me they are less than 1/2 mile down the road from Thompson's.

I will be releasing my room at Thompson's as I have more folks coming with me than can fit in the room.  I have reserved 4 cabins that are 1 mile north of Thompson's.

I just got off the phone with this motel and they only haved 2 single rooms left.  It is run by the same people that run Fox's Pizza, so don't be alarmed when they answer the phone.   Smiley

However, the Star Hotel still has rooms available for $65 per night.

I forgot that the Star Hotel had rooms....We use to eat there when they first opened about 6 years ago....excellent food....they are located right in the middle of town on main st.....looks like we'll be getting every available room in this little town...amazing....I talked to Wolf this morning and he's going to arrange for a church group or one of the local organizations along our ride route to do a buffet style lunch stop along the way...there are not many restaurants in this area that can handle so many people all at once...so this should work out good for us, as far as lunch goes.. cooldude

There's a strong possibility I will be leaving Franklin on Sunday June 12 and heading towards Moab UT. Arriving in Moab on June 17. Riding on two lane roads where possible. All the way on my KLR650. My cruising speed on a KLR is about 55mph so I will be putting in some long days. At that speed I need to fill up every 200 miles leaving a 50 mile buffer for oops. Startign early and finishing just before dusk. No planned stops along the way just wherever I happen to end up for the night. Motels - no camping.

Anyone want to ride along? All or part of the way?

The route I have planned misses Interstates apart from small sections around the south of St. Louis and north of Whichita.

any reservations made at franklin WITHOUT a credit card will NOT be there. I was the 3rd person to call and reserve and the young lady told me I dont need a credit card, I'll have a room. well......She lied. she never put me in the book, just left a note on top. so, the rented al the rooms and NEVER called me to ask me for a credit card. pretty lame you ask me. So, now, took time off from work, got everything ready to go and I dont have a room as of yet. got me in on a saturday but that a day late....

oh, btw. the girl got fired a month ago for not following directions. if you had a reservation without a credit card, better call and verify yours...you might be in the same boat Im in...

Dogg, I just called to confirm a res, and was told they do not take credit cards in advance.  Hubcap (Mike) and I have a room reserved (under his name), and no card has been requested, or was taken today.

They remain fully booked.

Wonder if they will kick you out for sleeping in the hallway. I know I've passed out in a few hotel hallways before and no one bothered me. But then again I was drunk, so maybe they did, and I just wouldn't wake up.

dont care much for their business. franklin inn, though I WAS the 3rd to call for a room, never entered me in the books nor did they EVER call me to tell me about the credit card info. the girl told me i didnt need it. so, now, they just told me I am crap outa luck. burns my goat. since feb 21st and nobdy called to tell me different?? wtf kinda business practice is that. yes, i thought it wierd but, if they say they dont need it, then i believe them. stupid me. I wouldnt give them a water bottle if the place was on fire. I hate this kind of treatment and Ive made all kinds of arrangements, vacation time, rented a car for the wife....a bunch of stupid crap and all they can say is oh well....maybe next year...wtf does that mean??  do what you want but i might not even show up now. unless the star has a room. we will see...

As I posted earlier, I have 4 cabins 1 mile north of there, we may have extra room, won't know til we get there.  The Gal that I reserved from said we could put all the folks we can squeeze into the cabins, so if you are unsure about your reservation, bring a sleeping bag and call me if you don't have a place to lay your head.  two four eight - seven nine four - six zero three seven.

Hello, I'm new to this board.  Just bought my first Valkyrie this week, a 2001 Interstate.  I've been riding my 1995 Goldwing Aspencade for years, which we would bring for this ride.  The wife is not quite ready to ride the Valkyrie yet.  This ride sounds like fun.  The wife made us a reservation and we were wondering if you have the times the rides will be starting on Friday and Saturday and where to meet.  Looking forward to meeting some fellow Valkyrie riders.

Thanks,

In addition to what hubcapsc said, the organized ride is on Saturday, and yeah, they generally start around 9am.  The ride on Friday is from your home (or wherever) to the event.  And then on Sunday...the ride home.  It should be a good time.
