From Irving I would head north to towns like Argyle, Ponder, Justin, Muenster, St Jo, Nocona, Gainesville, Tioga just to name a few cities.  Most of the roads going to these locations will be backroads I think you will enjoy.  I will get a map out and post the FMs to take.  You have some free time let me know and I will be happy to show them to you if I am available.

City and roads to travel:
Argyle - Hickory Hill Rd, Copper Canyon Rd, FM407, FM377
Ponder - FM156, FM2449, Ponder Steakhouse since 1948, Ponder State Bank (Bonnie and Clyde robbed it and it was used in the movie).
Justin - FM156, FM407, Justin Boots
Rosston - FM922, Has a 100 year old General Store that is still open.
Muenster - FM373, Has place to get some German Food, The Centre
Gainesville - Good place The Fried Pie Company
St Jo - FM677 follow this to FM89 and head to the OK border and cross the Red River.  There is a bridge that is a great place to stop take a break and shoot some pictures., FM89 (Oklahoma Border)
Nocona - Ride out to Spanish Fort FM103, Nocona Boots
Tioga - FM377, FM922, Clarks Outpost is a good BBQ stop.

A ride down 51 from Weatherford through Granbury to Hico will drop you at the Koffee Kup for some great pie.

Keep your eye on our board, someone is always headed somewhere and it goes without saying you are welcome to join us. There is a wrench party today just north of town, the post is here on the board and the Just Ride Meetup has rides going every weekend.

North of the metromess -- Denison, E FM 120 to one lane bridge across to Oklahoma.  A lot of the DFW Valkers have made this trek.  I would be happy to ride with/guide you across and back to civilization.  Right now, though, I am working Monday and Thurs.  Don't know if you are planning to come this far north east or not (approx 80 miles from Irving), approx 60 miles east of St. Jo,approx 55 miles east of Muenster

Tioga - FM377, FM922, Clarks Outpost is a good BBQ stop.

All great suggestions, just to add FM455 going over to Tioga always makes top TX road rankings. I like the ride over the dam, but I'm usually in a hurry to get to Clarks Outpost BBQ.  Wink
