Could be the gas cap is leaking the smell. Some have done something with the cap to stop it. Can't remember just what, but search the general and tech boards for gas cap and will likely find the fix. Some Valks had a recall on the gas caps for that very thing. Also, How warm was the weather? Could be some gas out the overflow from the heat. If you just bump the starter button, you should be able to tell if hydrolock has happened. The best way to be sure about hydrolock is to pull the plugs like RDKILL said. Hope this helps
