VRCC Family,
I know we’re all struggling with this news. I’m really having a hard time today. Thought I’d share a little about how I know Brian with you.
I met Brain for the first time in Johnson City at InZane in 2008 when he and Thelma came with Rhonda and Noah just after Steve’s passing. I had the opportunity to meet Rhonda via email just after Steve’s passing and became fast friends. At InZane I saw how he and Thelma watched after Rhonda and Noah. Then in the months and years after that time how Brain and Thelma have been there for them. I’m not sure what Rhonda and Noah would have done without them in their lives. He and Noah have a very special relationship. They have spent a lot of time together. Noah, for you my heart is especially breaking. Not that I’m not sad for everyone else, because I am. It’s because of what’s you’ve already been through. Darn it all!
Patrick and I had the opportunity in June of 2009 to go to Rhonda’s on our way to the Blue/Grey Ride and spend some time with her and Noah. Since we had never met Steve we had an opportunity to be in their home, town, visit the cemetery (Steve’s headstone is awesome) and their church; I’ll never forget that time. Then there’s Brian he’s such a great guy, he drove a long way (I can’t tell you where it was) to meet us before we got to Rhonda’s in his car, the sports car, #1 so we could find Rhonda’s easier, #2 so Patrick could ride (he was on the Valk) on some twisties before we got to Rhonda’s and not sure it was planned #3 since I’d been on the bike all day I got to ride with Brian in the car the rest of the way. We were able to have a nice visit. I really enjoyed the car ride too. Oh, Brian took the day off work to do that for us. That’s the kind of man Brian is. That evening we all, including Thelma, met for dinner at a favorite pizza place for some outstanding pizza. I remember Patrick and I putting a lot of pizza away that night.
The next morning Rhonda, Noah, and I in Noah’s car headed out from Rhonda’s because if you remember the stories about how steep her driving way was; well, she wasn’t joking it was. Patrick followed her up alone on the Valk. He wasn’t sure how he was going to tackle that incline with a passenger. On the way up he was little concerned about how he would make it without a passenger; he made it though. We met up with Brian and the ride began; Brian on his Valk, Patrick and I on his Valk and Rhonda and Noah in the car. What an awesome day of riding. I can’t tell you the roads we were on; however, those of you familiar with the roads between Huntington WV to Gettysburg PA know there are some amazing twisties. Patrick was in awe the entire day of Brian’s ability to ride the curves. All day Patrick kept telling me, “look he never touches his breaks in the curve” or “look how smooth he is through the curve”. The fellowship along the way when we stopped for gas or a meal was wonderful. I remember the day being so awesome at one point along the way I began to quote a favorite bible verse and was having trouble remembering the words so Brian finished it for me without missing a beat “This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it” Psalm 18:24. That’s the last time Patrick was able to ride with Brian.
The last time we saw Brain and Thelma was back in September at Rhonda’s. It was so nice to see them and visit. We also had an opportunity to meet Zach, what a nice young man, what a great sense of humor; a chip off the old block. I must say there was sadness about Brian. That same sadness was there in 2009 when we rode with him.
Brian and I share a love for Starbuck’s coffee; I wonder if they have Sharbuck’s in heaven?
I’m praying for a miracle for complete healing because I know God can do anything. I’m also praying for God’s will to be done because God knows what’s best even when we don’t understand why things happen. Praying for peace and comfort for Thelma, Zach, Rhonda, Noah, Craig and the rest of the family and friends that they can feel the warmth of God’s touch from all the prayers and support lifting them up during this time, that they will continue and sustain them for as long as needed. I imagine Jesus holding you all with his arms around you when I pray for you.
Thank you for listening, Love and Blessings, Carolyn
Be still, and know that I am God Psalm 46:10
