Has anyone tried to plug the vent in the fairing of the IS?  Just wondering if there is any ill effects.  My problem is while riding in the rain, I get a lot of water under my visor and I thought if the vent was plugged, that would help.  I haven't ridden in the rain this year yet so I haven't tried it.  Just thought I'd see if any of you have tried it and what you may have discovered.  Thanks and RIDE SAFE!! cooldude

There's another thread on the Tech board called Whistle Problem. Several members said they put tape or foam rubber in the vent with no adverse effects.

The vent, also found on Gold Wings, helps prevent buffeting behind the windshield caused by vacuum at high speeds.

some things seem so simple when you just look.  I was wondering why there wasn't much air coming through the vent on my (new to me) IS. After seeing this post, I looked closer fro m the front and noticed the previous owner had placed a chunk of foam rubber in the vent from the front!   Simply pulled it out and WOW! what a nice breeze!  uglystupid2 (it was nearly 95 down here today...the added air flow was wonderful...........)  Peace

Yes the air is better with the vent unplugged, but wait till you commence eating large and small bugs that shoot thru there, and also gum up the inside of the shield.

The bug thing is true, I've been hit, and looking down at half a bee when checking guages is a little uncomfortable. I was thinking of putting in a screen, and keeping some foam insulation in the pocket of my rain gear.

As suggested by a local rider, use an old filter for the furnace. Allows all the air flow, but keeps nasties ouf of your face.

Won't stop the water (original post), for that a foam would be better. But for me while riding in the rain, I never noticed any coming in from there, but coming down from above. I rode through a few rain storms on my daily driver IS and I ride with the visor open a little bit to stock it from fogging up.
