Last Saturday I rode to visit my Mothers grave and clean it up and add a wreath.
As I pulled out of the cemetary I noticed a cop parked across the street (a common spot to bust those going slightly over the 30 MPH speed limit).
As soon as I pulled out the cop started to chase me down with lights and sirens blaring; I never got a block past the cemetary. I pulled over and waited for the cop to approach me (he already had his hand on his holster). He started by asking why I was riding a "Chopper" through a cemetary? Did Ihave no respect for those greiving relatives and their children? He ranted on that "people like you (me)" have no respect for the dead and those visiting the mothers grave. He kept up this ranting rage, so I interjected that I also cleaned my parents gravesites and arrained a wreath on my mothers grave. He then said it was illegal to ride a motorcycle in a cemetary. He said that if he ever saw another motorcycle that "the rider would land in jail before they knew what was happening".
There are no signs at the entrances or exits,...and in the pas few years I've been in quite a few "Biker" funerals and have never been hassled. As a matter of fact one of those had well over three hundred motorcycles following the hearse to the gravesite with at least five different outlaw clubs from several chapters. All those had police escorts to keep traffic under control.
Why do some cops beleive that they cane simply make up rules and try to intimidate riders? Although I was not intimidated; I was annoyed to say the least. And I guess I would have fought the jail sentence with a countersuit for "Profiling" and intimidation. All I can say is that the Dearborn/Dearborn Hts. police are targeting to wrong people and trying to apease the wrong people (and ethnic groups).
What is happening to this country?
I think you just had a run in with one of "those" cops, he's in the job for the wrong reason and it will consume him. after watching years of COPS it seems the one trait the successful cops have in common they want to help people.
he may be new to the job some it seems have a phase where they want to "catch them all" then they move into a phase of 'prevention" and then they realize they are really there to 'protect and serve'.
