I ran my Valk through the gears briskly and power shifted to 5th when the tach passed 6000 at about 90, let off and got down to 75 at a steady pace. When I slowed I noticed I had dropped a cylinder, so I ran it up and it evened out. The rest of the day I dropped a cylinder every time rpm got down to 2500 rpm or so. Sounds like a slow speed jet is clogged. How does a power shift at 90 cause a clogged slow jet? ??? Hoser Found it, cracked vacumn plug on # 5 carb Much thanks for all your advise. I'll do my happy dance now. Hoser

May have broken some crud in the carb bowl loose and sucked it in.

I'd say keep it above 90 mph and you'll be alright.

Well, I reckon I'll just treat it as that, and dump in some seafoam and techron for a while. BTW, replaced the spark plugs, since I had about 40K on them, it is the # 3 cylinder according to the old plugs. Hoser ???

I'd suggest dropping that float bowl to check for more of the same junk you suspect is causing the problem.

In-as-much-as the last thing you did was to change the plugs, pull and check them first! Then, if nothing is found to be amiss, check into the carbs.

Oh! #3 is way so much fun to pull while the rack is in place,,, been there I am sure everyone remembers that little nightmare of mine.
Maybe just try opening the drain and catch what comes out so you can inspect it first.

I was never a believer in that injection cleaner stuff but I bought a bottle of Lucas and poured 3/4 of it in my tank last week during fillup and it took care of a slight miss I was feeling.

"Maybe just try opening the drain and catch what comes out so you can inspect it first." Yeah, fordmano is correct: It would be the best thing at first, removing the bowl may/might be the second task. I might add that removing the bowl can be problematic for the uninitiated. Not for the weak heart! ***
