.....not sure if this has been discussed previously

The police officer in New Castle PA will be on unpaid suspension for 60 days because he killed his partner, Chico by leaving him in his patrol car.

This piece of sh!t should be fired and then charged and then confined......I believe its a felony for someone to harm a Police dog.......should it not stand to be reasonable that same felony should apply.....just because the police dog is killed because of the stupidity of a fellow officer........

WOW!  Thats messed up!  Granted my sheltie can be a bit trying at times but thats too much. The question is why was the K9 left in the car? I ride with a guy thats a K9 officer for a local railroad, and that dog goes EVERYWHERE!! He catches a ton of crap form his wife because he puts his dog into the suburban before his kids.  if a place he's going into gives him crap he refuses to do business there. I've known him to go to work  sick, hurt, exhausted etc, but if his dog sneezes too much he'll take him off duty.  What a shame.....

The link never said why the so called cop left his partner in the car for 4 hours. I would like to know why he left the dog in the car. I also believe that he should be charged with animal crulety. WTF is wrong with people? DO not answer that question because I know the list will be LONG!!

What would a average citizen be charged with if they caused the death of a police dog?   ???  Should the officer be any different?

A police dog is an officer. It IS Battery against LEO for the average citizen. As it should be !

Although, I love my and most dogs, there simply isn't enough evidence presented for me to make a judgement call on this.  Based on the posted story, all we know is the dog died of heat stroke.

And the officer was responsible for his partners safety. I would not want to be on a call with that ass hat !

I live about 10 miles from New Castle. Not a K-9 LEO, but an LEO none-the-less...

They are being pretty tight-lipped around here about exactly what happened. What has been reported is that he left the dog in the car while working an off-duty security detail for the county housing authority. He left the dog, I guess in a running car, with the A/C on. The temperature was in the 80's. At some point the A/C failed (don't know specifically why) and sometime over a 3 hour and 45 minute period the dog died of heatstroke. I was told, but cannot confirm, that the car had a mechanism in it that if the temperature in the car went too high the windows are supposed to partially open and a fan is supposed to activate. It was not switched on (again, the last part I can't confirm).

That's what I know...

My opinion... simply, he should be held to an as high, or higher standard as compared to the general public. The punishment he got, was the administrative part of this matter, and it wasn't enough.

There is still a criminal investigation taking place by the County District Attorney's Office; who knows what will happen with that. They should have waited to find out if the DA was going to pursue criminal charges before taking administrative action. I would imagine catching a criminal charge in this matter would have caused a different attitude for the administrative proceedings.

But then again... what do I know?
