So my rear stock Avon is getting low and I am really leaning towards going to the Darkside.  I wanted some feedback on the Yokohama A048 from those that have or have ridden it and also the Toyo Proxes R888.  I have done lots of reading and checked out a lot of different tires.  I like the rounded look of the Yoko and the tread pattern.  I know about the lower mileage compared to other car tires but thats o.k.  I ride one up most of the time on an '03 Standard and I dont ride the curves.  Just straight up high speed cruising.  I would also appreciate posting some pics of the tire on your bike and what front you are running.  If your in southern NJ, I'll ride over and take a look at it.  Thanks, John

I'm running the Toyo Proxes T-1R in a 205/55/16.  I had to do the nut cage mod and switch to a carriage bolt to get clearance.  Some slow speed issues, but overall a good experience.  Logged about 300 miles in our NW Arkansas corners Saturday.  My opinion at this point is good.  Oh yeah, still running my front Avon.  Not too many miles left on it, but good for now.  Al

I did get a couple of interesting comments about the car tire last week.  I rode over to Kimberling City to see someone.  On the way I stopped at a station to return a phone call.  A fellow Valk rider came walking up to see my Interstate.  About ten feet away he says, "What the h*** kind of rear tire is that?"  He proceeded to talk about remembering some guys he knew running Volkswagen tires on older Wings, but said he'd never heard of putting one on a Valk.  I gave him the forum's web address.  He wanted the tire information.  Good visit with a Valk rider.
While in Kimberling City I had a guy walk up and say, "Hey you know that thing won't go around corners with that tire on it?"  Then he told me he has a 1100 Shadow that he runs a car tire on and has for about 25k.  He said he gets that from people all the time.
So far the experience has been good, but it is certain that the car tire gets a reaction.  Some good and some bad.  I'm not all that concerned with the comments - but am working on my opinion based on experience and research.  Like I said, so far so good.

Goodyear Triple Tread.   Out of all the tires I have run, this is the best in my opinion so far.

This is my 9th or 10th car tire.   I run a Metzler front, more tread on the road in my opinion again.

the I/S by the Red bike has the same tire.  That is the best I can do as my mudflap covers it up.

The above is the actual tire.

BTW, I have a set of Progressive 430 shocks in 11.5 inch length coming.  Will that tire still work without any issues?  I am also liking the look of the Toyo Proxes R888 if anyone has any feedback on that one as well.

It seems like I saw someone comment on their experience with the R888 in the Tech archives when I was looking.  Not certain, but you might try a search there.  Al

I would'nt want to tell you that you may have issues with those short shocks cause I don't know forsure ...But I do think its possible that this " MAY " become a problem with a car tire. I run the Cooper Zeon 2XS 205/55/16 on all my Valkyries I think you would be hard pressed to find one that sticks any better .
