My Green/Silver Valkyrie was named "Valkie" by the previous owners (they bought her new).   I don't believe in changing names just because the owner changes.  But I did shorten it to just "Valk" or "The Valk".

When I brought "the Valk" home it was 1999 and Brian (Gunslinger) had done nothing except rave about how he would own one. We were next door neighbors and when I needed a favor he was NEVER too busy washing his hair (he actually had some back then) and because I was self employed and had to drive the company truck I could not ride to work. Brian was doing I.T. work (what ever that is) and traveled alot so I told him to take the bike. Holding out the keys to him he looked humbled and said "The Valk ? " . He never gave that key back and I was OK with that because she came with two. From that point forward she was "THE Valk" and he now owns 3,a standard made into a tourer "Black Betty",a low miles standard "Kerri's Bike" and an Interstate that he is trying to wear out as fast as he can rack up the miles.....But my beaten and battered beauty is still ,and always will be "The Valk? " .

I know it is generic and many are called the same, but the history of this bike and the stories that follow it makes such a generic name so special to me that I will never give it up. The name,or "THE Valk!" ! coolsmiley

On my days off during the week I would spend hours working on my cycle.  It got to the point were my wife would ask if I was keeping a “mistress” in the shed, so my cycle became the “other woman”.  After joking about it for a while I came up with the name “Val”, short for Valkyrie.  I’d tell the wife that I was going to go ride Val and that I’d be back in a few hours.  She was always happy ‘cause that meant that I wouldn’t be bothering to “ride” her later on at night!! Mostly just the 'Fat Lady' (I told my Mom I keep one chained in the garage and she said; 'son, you're a sick man.'). uglystupid2 Now I've told her its just a bike, but she still gives me odd looks.

However, when In want to be extra nice to the Fat Lady I calls her 'Dolores'.

It just seems to fit somehow. Roll Eyes

I just call it the bike. But people around me have been calling it 9 Ball. It's yellow and cream and in this small town it will probably stick. So i have been thinking next winter painting the side covers. I could have a 9 ball with flames comming off of it.

I looked up Norse Valkyries on line and chose Brigitt. I think the site I found was anglicized since I later found Paxton's site and discovered it is actually Brynhild, but she'd been Brigitt so long it stuck.

I used to refer to mine as "Horse with no Name" from the song by America.  We spent a lot of time riding alone together all over the USA, and seemed to always end up somewhere in Death Valley or the Mojave Desert before heading up to Yellowstone.  "I've been through the desert on a horse with no name"....
