Dear err... "Sick Puppies" (NOT!) I am still hoping for an answer to my poorly-written question! Please, allow me to clarify the why am asking: I live in the middle of LA County in a fairly nice area = Not much traffic by Los Angeles County's standards. However, any time I want to travel somewhere twenty-miles away, I encounter bumper-to-bumper traffic. I must then choose whether to crawl along or split lanes. In LA, lane-splitting is permissible. If it weren't, motorcyclists would just become solo-car-drivers... I regularly split lanes when I ride my CAFE Racer;but never on the Valkyrie. Nevertheless, during a recent Valk-crawl... err... a "ride," I spent 18 minutes crawling half mile bumper-to-bumper @112-degree-F... under direct sunlight! I know; lane-splitting has its dangers. However, traffic congestion from 6:AM to 7:PM in Los Angeles will continue to increase unabated. So, I've decided to begin the practice of lane-splitting (only under extreme circumstances) w/-the Valk. However, I am concerned with its bulk and how fat is TOO FAT for the LADY to lane-split... ??? Ok. That's my story and am stickin' to it! PS: Thank you for the "Bulk-photos" but I want a second opinion! "Why is my stuff crap and your crap stuff ?" Unk

Unk Ok, since I'm in a situation were I split lanes daily here's my advice.. When you become uncomfortable with the notion, you should not be splitting lanes. If you choose to split lanes and your head and body weave, instead of the bike, you should not be splitting lanes. If you're in a location were you do not see other bikers doing it you should not consider it. If you can’t keep your anger in check you should not be splitting lanes. And I could go on and on and on… As far as how fat is two fat?....... I don't mean to be rude, just realistic, If you have to ask a question like this you should not be splitting lanes.

On the Valk I dont split lanes.
However it might just have happened a few times that I ride the right shoulder in traffic on 287 especially if its coming back from a ride that started 10 hours before
The 1150rt-p is pretty narrow so I have done that many times in stopped traffic on the cross bronx but not around trucks, just cars
now a cafe racer is even narrower and I have seen em go in spaces that I just kinda scratch my helmet and go how he do dat
I agree if you need to think about it you shouldnt be doing it on the Valk, the bars are wide and if you have wide highway pegs sticking out its even fatter
Gig I am still laughing at that pic, Joe your friends will find out when she brags or rags about you to HER friends

As I recall from my days in SoCA, the law allowing splitting said you could exceed the speed of traffic by 5mph; so in gridlock you are allowed to putt up between cars at 5 (to 10) knots. I saw others hauling azz (sport bikes), and never a stop or ticket, but really, lane splitting is only even close to safe if you go at it easy, giving them time to see you coming up their sides (every light you have is on and brights too). I split lanes out there on a full dress Hog, but only only on big multi-lane hwys, and only putting along, and only until the next exit or two.... I did not make a living at it. Still, I had a car and couple trucks intentionally squeeze me out by driving right over on the line..... so I flipped the bars, rode behind them and passed up the other side. Traffic here in Sodom on the Potomac is not as bad or as huge as SoCA, but it's still bad. What I do is get up early and head West until it is behind me, stay out there all day, and sneak home the best I can with short cuts. I could have ridden to work (a block behind the White House) every day for 18 years, and saved a lot of money, but I took the car to the Metro and rode a train in..... because riding in that traffic sucked large, it was only a matter of time till I got hit (or killed an azz hat), and that kind of riding is no part of the fine art of motorcycling. If I had to commute out there and split all the time, I'd get a Suzuki SV650 and do it on that. (and put sliders on it)
