FAQ's from San Marcos:

1. Anybody know any good tutorial pages for rebuilding carbs?
2. Any known sources for kits?
3. Are there any ancillary parts I need to consider along the way?
4. Do I de-smog or let that slide for awhile longer?
5. Wanting to install a Pingle petcock long the way.

Thanks for any help...

Did my carbs earlier this year.  Used the o-ring kit, bowl gaskets and pilot tool from Redeye tech.  Good stuff, very reasonable shipping, etc.  http://redeye.ecrater.com/c/414983/carb-intake-seal-kits  He also has some stuff on ebay, but I've found you get a little better price and cheaper shipping on his site.

I went with a pingle and did the desmog.  I'm sure others will weigh in with opinions on both.

Do you have a Shop Manual?  It's pretty thorough on the rebuild process.  I followed it and searched on the Tech Board if I bumped into anything that I didn't understand.  Also posted a couple of questions during the process and usually had prompt and helpful responses pretty quick.  I also referred to a post on the tech board that had a lot of pics - by Fordmano.  You'll find it here:  http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,21439.0.html

I replaced my low and high speed jets.  The reason I did my rebuild was a plugged low speed jet on #1 and I didn't want to risk having any issues after I got it together. Stock is 35 low speed and 100 high speed.  Some guys recommend going to a 38 low speed to help with the propensity to have an occasional low speed issue.  I also choose to bump my high speeds to 105.  Probably not necessary, but it's what I did.  Found the source for the jets on the thread of Fordmano rebuild.  rockymountainatv.com
If you read his thread you'll find the part numbers.  I'm honestly not sure how Honda compares on the prices for the jets.  Didn't even compare.

Ok, pretty sure I'll think of more later.  Feel free to contact me if you have questions.  I'm not a mechanic, but my carb rebuild was a success and there is some good reading on the Tech Board if you search.  Way too much reading, actually.  Lot's of opinions, but a lot of good stuff!

1. Do you have a Service Manual?  If not, you can download it (<160MB) from Dag's Valkyrie Norway site http://www.valkyrienorway.com/.  Left side of page, click on Valkyrie Document Center, first download option at the top.
2. I don't have experience with his Carburetor stuff, but I've been happy with everything I've gotten from Rich.
3. Typical suggestions like vacuum lines, vacuum caps, air filter, petcock rebuild kit or cover set + screen set.  And, Rich offers a stubby pilot tool.
4. If your pair valves are functioning properly there is no compelling reason to do it, but it does clean up the look of the top of the engine.  Rich has a kit for that, too.
5. Why?  http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,32983.0.html

I bought one of the cheaper desmog kits from Redeye Tech and then didn't use it. I simply used the instructions on Shoptalk.  For me that was the cheaper and easier way to go.  If you decide to do the desmog with that kit, I'll make you a really good deal on the kit I didn't use.

feel free to contact me if you want more info on my rebuild experience.  Glad to share here or in any way that's helpful.
