Side Stand Switch Help

I just installed a new side stand spring (the nickle trick worked great) and side stand spring bolt.  Side stand works great but now the side stand switch is not 'disengaging' when the side stand is up.

I'm assuming that I installed the spring incorrectly.  Does the side stand switch rotate with the side stand? Mine is not.

No it doesn't rotate.  

Here is the spring connection,

Side stand Switch inspection

Disconnect the side stand switch 3P-green (GL1500CF:

2P-green) connector under the frame cross member.

Check for continuity between the side stand switch side

connector terminals.

There should be continuity between the green white and

green wire terminals with the side stand retracted.

GLI 500C/CT only: There should be continuity yellow/black

and green wire terminals with the side stand lowered

Thanks for the picture!! I know exactly what I did wrong now.  I did not pass the bolt though the slot on the switch body.  I was pondering what that slot was for

I'm glad you fixed the glitch. The metal plate that the two bolts go through serves as a keeper. It takes two bolts to align the tab (X in pic below) on the metal plate with the notch in the sidestand switch. In turn, the metal plate locks the switch from rotating out of position. If you don't mind me asking, what was the reason for installing the new spring?

I made a quick left hand turn following another rider and somehow high centered on a speed bump.  The side stand bolt sheared off and the spring was gone and lost forever.  I have been carrying a small bungee chord on board for the past 8 years just in case this ever happened.

Had to replace the spring, bolt and washer.  A simple fix but very little information on how to do it except for the VRCC Tech Board.  Even the parts are listed on 2 separate Honda microfiches.

I've not ordered any spare parts but the bungee chord is back in the saddle bags.

As I mentioned earlier, using 12 nickles between the coils to spread the new spring for installing worked as advertized.

yes, the bolt for the sidestand spring is listed on the Frame Page not on the Sidestand Page. I asked the reason for replacing the spring just in case you might have stumbled upon a defect, etc. that we should keep an eye out for.

Btw, a problem specific to the spring bolt, itself, was brought up in an earlier post, here, and the pic below. Since the spring bolt is hidden from view it's something that's worthwhile inspecting every now and then. If the spring bolt is damaged or weakened the spring tension will quicken it's demise. In the same post Chrisj CMA noted:

I think I know why that bolt will eventually break.  The metal plate with the [slotted] hole in it designed to secure that bolt allows it to bend back and forth  just a little, but over time you all know what bending metal back and forth does.  yep! crack!
