Alph, you beat me to it. Actually, to my recollection Bobo was more caustic at times. In either case, I've never been able to figure out why an otherwise solid and useful response has be prefaced with sacasm and insolence. Just not needed and takes away from what is often a good piece of info or opinion. The sarcasm then becomes the outstanding issue and not the facts presented. They're both intelligent individuals but seem to miss that point. Oh well.....

No, that'd still be pretty bad... It's just if you made another one, Mr. Anvil would post and complain that you're not showing enough skin or something...  2funny

I've never been able to figure out why an otherwise solid and useful response has be prefaced with sacasm and insolence. . .

Sometimes I like sarcasm and insolence.  Goes along well with impertinence, impudence, back talk, mouth, sass, sauce.  also seems to bolster affront, barb, cut, dart, dig, dis (also diss) [slang], epithet, gird, indignity,  offense (or offence), outrage, poke, put-down, insult, slap, slight, slur etc.

imagine how dull life would be if there was ALWAYS agreement accord, concurrence, consensus, unanimity, unison, meeting of minds or civility, pleasantry, politeness.  HOW BORING!  Evil Evil

I'll admit I've expressed a bit of animosity directly towards Anvil himself in a long ago previous thread.

But this thread amounts to nothing more than flat out bullying.
And, most of it is coming from our southern hemisphere so to speak...

Shame on all of us.  Sad

I've noticed very few others, over time, able to match his succinctness, knowledge & intellect with his posts.

Too bad there's no button for a "Way-Back-Machine" effect to revert this board back about 7 years.

I would say  this post is vindictive, spiteful, revengeful. Never ceases to amaze me what sort of emotions people have. Each to their own. Glad to know anyone can express whatever they want regardless of what others think.

That is what freedom is about.

Somehow I think he could give a crap what a lot of lemmings think.

Time for another board? We have general, we have tech. Start another. Make it by invitation only, or insist on an entrance test and pre-qualification. That way, when you parade a topic nobody in the group will challenge it. Perfect little circle-jerk of fun.

What a pathetic thread this is. Starting a thread about a particular member of this board? Wow..

As 3fan4life said, all you have to do is add The Anvil to your ignore list. Since doing so, I've been much happier reading the forum. Victims of bullies often contribute to the situation. Choose not to be bullied.

He has the right to post and insult to his hearts content - freedom of speech and he isn't yelling "fire" in a theatre.  I just have exercised my right to ignore his posts, especially after his Columbia shuttle post.

And he won't respond to this topic. That in effect is his response. Or maybe he did post - I will never see the post anyway.   cooldude

Hey guys...I didn't intend for this to become a bash Anvil thread.  I was just on the board last night and every thread I pulled up had at least one Anvil response, if not 2 or 3.  I was trying to make a joke about the quantity of his posts, not the quality.  He has some good responses at times.  I agree with other posters - if you have a problem with the quality of his posts, just use the IGNORE button.

My apologies to you, Anvil, for what this thread has become.

... the quantity of his posts, not the quality...

I think it is a little bit from column "A" and a little bit from column "B".

Quantity - even the heavy hitters on this board... the one's with 5 and 6 thousand posts show averages of about 5 or 6 posts per day. The person to which we are referring... 15 posts per day average. I wish I was as knowledgeable on everything as to have an opinion of it all.

Quality - while arguably knowledgeable, when you are condescending and come off as smarmy, it grates on people real quick.

Now add to that.... there sometimes is a tendency on this board for it to become clique-ish. It's understandable as there are groups here that commonly ride and otherwise interact together. Then there are the old-timers (time on board, not age) that most of the time are considered as "untouchable" when it comes to what they have to say.

Take the above and add someone who is relatively new, who comes off smarmy and you get this thread.

Can't say I disagree with the general attitude presented in this thread... but then again, what do I know.

I was not going to respond to this thread... but decided to.  There are numerous personalities on this board.  some clash, some don't.  Some go with the flow... decide not to comment... comment with other than their true feelings... or let it all hang out with no regard to what others may think... etc. etc.
Some are critical of a variety of things ranging from responses they do not agree with... to things as simple as words being (speled rong).  I say "So what".   I'll just read with interest and process it as I wish.  Learn what I choose to... and disregard the personality part of the response that doesn't "fit" with the way I think.   I couldn't care less if someone is spouting off because I just choose to sift through the stuff that makes no difference to me.
There is a lot to be learned by all... regardless of the personality aspect.  Just ride and learn.

we haven't been able to find a topic in which Anvil isn't an expert.

nobody knows everything anyone that tries to come off as an expert on all topics is a very insecure person......

I won't BS you if I don't know I won't run to a website an rapidly become an expert. when the tragic crash happened at the Reno airshow I said so, I don't know squat about stunt planes except they are by design unstable. that makes them good for stunts.

when Anvil chimed in using a lot of insider lingo I took notice, then I find out he works on planes. as far as I'm concerned he's an expert at aviation.

an expert on everything a true 'renaissance man'? I'm not  sure they exist anymore.

I have had those I met and consider a friend withdraw from this and another board because of piling on

Not to say that any of those people didnt sometimes speak first and think later without deliberation

Dont always agree with most folks, heck sometimes I dont even agree with things I do myself in hindsight

Agree that when you start your remark with a comment like
What kool aid you drinking
what are you smoking
Are you a moron
or any other put down then you set yourself up for what you deserve

Never met the man, dont know his real name, agree he seems to have a lot to say
Look forward to one day meeting him and the rest of you I dont know by sight yet
and perhaps sharing some lies and beverage

Jack and Dave I am kinda with you on this one

It makes me want to put up the imaginary scenario thread again
In fact here it is

Okay, now that we've all had a chance to ex[press our displeasure, let's let this thread slip away into the night.

As to Oss's observation, I do know Anvil's real name.  I believe he is a really nice guy who loves his wife and children and is a very knowledgeable young man.  I'd like to ride with him someday, but I suspect I would have a hard time keeping up.

I have some agreement with some of the insights posted here.  I have disagreement, maybe strong disagreement, with some of the opinions posted here.

BamaDrifter, I believe you won your own contest.  Your point was made (and then distorted by some).  Kudos to the Anvil.
