I have a car tire on back, and I am interested in putting a rear m/c tire on front, but I'm having the hardest time finding the same size rear tire as the oem front tire.  What size/brand do most people use in place of the standard size?  The reason I am interested in keeping it the same size (or maybe a little taller) is to keep the speedometer reading the same (or slightly more accurate).

You aren't going find it in the same size.

The closest one I've found is the Kenda 130/90/17.

I installed the continental Conti-Go rear tire 130/90-17 V-rated tire on the front.
tread depth is .223".  Tire installed OD @ 42psi is 26" which is less than the advertised 26.85".
Actually this turned out to be OK for my std, as the ODO is spot on now and the speedo is approx 4-5mph fast, put the needle on 75mph and actually doing 70mph.

re: 130/90/17

That's overall diameter only.

The tire itself is quite a bit taller in profile but the tread width is narrower.

Front stock
150/80HR-17 120mm*
Measurement is from rim to tire cap.

130/90-17 117mm
140/80-17 112mm
140/90-17 126mm
150/70-17 105mm
150/80-17 120mm
160/70-17 112mm

This is by math only, actual mfgr sizes may vary.
These are easily available in rear tires, mostly bias ply. I use a D404 130/90-17 bias rear on the front and am very happy. The only other size that I may try, and seems to available in D404 whitewall only now and then is 150/90-17 135mm. I don't know if it will fit without modification, but it may delete the speedo error. And it would be HUGE!
