Too many greats gone away. Sorry, it's just too hard to choose just one. But these are a few I've enjoyed listening to lately (no particular order), all awesome on their own way:

Chet Atkins
Rosemary Clooney
Jerry Reed
Clarence White
Johnny and June Carter Cash
Earl Scruggs
Kenneth "Jethro" Burns
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Bobby Darin
Roger Miller

Chris Ledoux

+1  cooldude cooldude

Got to see him perform at Cheyenne Frontier Days in 2003 .... Best damn concert I've ever been to.
R.I.P. Chris LeDoux

Saw him in the 90's up here. He opened for another band. He should have been the headliner. Still listen to his stuff today even tho I've strayed from the country stuff.

How could I forget Jaco.  God I miss Jaco Pastorius... the best, most influential bass player ever.
He walks in to a Weather Report session (Josef Zawinul and Wayne Shorter were Miles Davis Proteges) as a young turk and proclaims "I am the best f***n bass player".. He ends up joining the band and ultimately produces some of their greatest albums.  Never a big main stream band ..you may have heard the song "Birdland"..

Jaco's life ended tragically.  He had alcohol problems coupled with manic depression.. He was homeless late in his young life, tried to sneak into a Santana concert and ran into the wrong bouncer, who crushed his skull on a sidewalk.

Jaco was a pioneer in jazz and fusion.
