...from a company called LaRue Tactical. I ordered a quick release optic mount from them a few days ago. Today it came and contained within the box (at no extra charge) was:

A "Dillo" Tactical Beverage entry tool:

A shaker of "Dillo Dust" dry rub (meat not included):

as well as a DVD of the 2010 Sniper Competition, lots of stickers (I have a sticker fetish) and catalogs and brochures.

Now, the thing is that this kind of above and beyond approach to CS seems to be the rule rather than the exception when it comes to quality weapon and components manufacturers. LaRue, Troy Industries, Daniel Defense, BCM, Magpul and 3 Rivers Precision are all companies that I would say provide exceptional service. Even Brownell's for all of their volume has a very solid CS department. By contrast the mainstream consumer market seems to treat CS as an afterthought. Not to say that good customer service doesn't exist outside of the firearms industry but is seems to be the exception rather than the norm.

What do ya' expect from an industry that knows it's customer base is highly armed? Wink

But yeah, I've noticed the same trend that gun companies tend to be way higher on the customer service than the mainstream retail and manufacturer industries are...

I just dipped a finger and it tastes really good. I may try it on ribeye tonight.

And though LaRue doesn't actually make optics they do make exceptionally high quality mounts. They're not cheap but the best never is.

Serk, yeah that thought crossed my mind too. I also think that most people in the industry are from military backgrounds and as such, hold themselves to a higher standard. They also know that their customers may also be active or ex-military and that they may be held to a higher standard. Their products are also quite likely to be deployed in combat. No one wants to have something on their weapon that's prone to fail at the worst possible moment.

Very true. Midway is another great company to deal with. Taurus is usually a good company to deal with but they kept me on hold today for 30 minutes waiting on the parts dept. I finally gave up but will try again later. It is Monday though and I'm sure they were just covered up.

Man, I think I'm the only guy left in America who doesn't own an AR, you guys are killing me.  Grin

I resisted buying one for a long time (even though I wanted one) because I was afraid I'd succumb to the disease. But a deal came up that I simply couldn't say no to so I made the leap. I will say that there's no better time to get into it though. There are a lot of manufacturers out there making a very good gun for under a thousand dollars. Colt, S&W, Spike's and Stag Arms are but a few. There is also a glut of good used rifles on the market. You can even get a genuine Smith & Wesson M&P AR15 for about 700 bucks. It's very bare-bones (no chamber door, no forward assist) but it's a solid, functional rifle.

BTW, I did succumb to the disease in a big way. I originally had no plans to modify the rifle beyond more ergonomic furniture. I'll post some before and after pics when the work I'm having done now is finished and you'll see exactly what I mean.  Grin
