Since it sounds like you don't have speakers yet, you also need wires. Either do your own, or the easy inexpensive way, buy a harness.

The $12.12 for shipping and handeling for a $14.95 rear Interstate speaker harness prevents me from ordering one from them.

YMMV,

Chicago Mark,  scroll down on shipping methods on that website.  For my zip code, it was 15.63 for  UPS ground residential but if you do USPS priority mail or USPS parcel post it is only 5.35 shipping not too bad at all.

Yah, been thinking on upgrading for a few years my stock cheap so-so at best honda OEM front speakers and adding rear speakers also aftermarket for better sound quality.  I have tried finding the wiring harness under the side cover but do not see the plug in for the rear speaker harness anywhere and I think the one adapter that might be it is being used by my 6 disc CD changer in the trunk that I never use since the sierra electronics clarion brand CD player skips after nearly every decent bump in the road, but sound quality is pretty good.  I've heard other CD changers mounted in the trunk or side bags on newer 1832cc goldwings also have skipping issues as well.

What speakers are you using? This may be a winter project for me next year...

Most have gone with the Polk db501, and I did too, for the same reasons, but the final was that they where both available from the same supplier, so I didn't have to pay sepparate shipping. (another cheaper supplier for the stereo didn't have the Polk)

The Polk has a little broader range of frequenzy so should be a little better sounding. I hooked it up to my Clarion CMS1 marine stereo, on my table, using a bunch of test leads, before I install it in my IS trunk on my ACE Tourer. I like the stereo, but the speakers where loose and I didn't find them too good. I'll reserve my judgement till they are fully mounted in the pods and on the back of the motorcycle.

Fred, the Polks are a US product, so you will have a hard time finding them local in Edmonton. If you can't, let me know, I could get them from the US for you, and if I can get them to my sister, she could bring them to Gibson AB where she lives. Or meet us in New Denver BC with the BC-VRCC rally in June 22.

My installation project post, on another forum. I'll post here when completed.

I'll keep that in mind, thanks! Do the 501's work for the front, or better the 401's. Is the difference indicate capabilities or size in inches?

J&M  1800 goldwing replacement speaker will fit perfectly in the front and rear housings. About 50 buck for each set. I got my from HDL several years ago and still working fine. 4/ 12in up front 4in in rear.

How's the sound quality of the J&M's compared with the Polks?

Hey Fred Got my 4 pairs of Polks from an American firm that ships out of Canada.
I believe orders over $49 are shipped free and they have a sale on them once a while where the second set is half price. So for 150 CAD ,2 prs shipped to the door and they do sound much better.Get on their email list and you will know of the sales.

I can't say too much about the sound as I have never heard the polks. I know they make good quality stuff thou. I believe the  installation is a little more difficult for the polks. The jm is plug and play.

I did check Crutchfield (and again now), and their price was $100 CAD.

I looked over the .com web site, same price, but I found Open Box and Scratch/dent. Now there's the deal, $90 and the second one half off on the open box (offer ends 04/24/12). The dent only has one pair, so no second at 1/2 price, but the open box worked.

I checked back on the .ca web site, no joy on the 2nd for 1/2 or even the open box or scratch/dent sales. I think I paid $70 US (at par now) for mine, when I bought with the CMS1 stereo.
