Hello guys, have to excuse my ignorance - I'm a relatively new Valk owner with a recently purchased 99 F6 Standard. Absolutley love the bike, but find it somewhat quiet with the OEM pipes. Was considering changing over to the cobra pipes, but can't seem to get a straight answer as to wether or not the carbs need to be re-jetted; local honda dealer wants nearly $600 in labour alone for the re-jet, others say it is not necessary......does anyone have a definitive answer?

What's the general consensus on just drilling out the baffles on the stock pipes as an alternative?

Thanks for the help!

Every bike can be diff! If air filter (or filter box) is stock, you leave the cobra baffles in place U should "B" ok. Lite bluing of the header pipes is normal! But any dark stuff, the Fuel/air mix screws needs turned out and or jets maybe needed. I ran my IS without a rejet for a while with no prob! rejeted, runs smoother with more grunt, But 30 mpg is about as good as it gets.

The bike comes from the factory lean so regardless of the exhaust you will get a better running bike with a rejet. The bike is not air cooled so it really doesn't have to be rejetted no matter what exhaust you put on. Like most exhaust though and with the idea of the previous statement you will get better performance. If the stock is just a little to quiet then the cobras may be overboard. They are pretty noisy and drone at highway speeds, and you may loose power no matter how you rejet with some of of the 6 into 6 exhausts, but different strokes for different folks.

I have Cobras on my bike.  Installed about 4 months ago.  I have the stock filter, shimmed the tank and run with the baffles "Out".   It runs fine.  I will be installing a K&N filter this week and will probably have the Pilots adjusted once I do that.  $600 sounds like extortion to me.  I just checked my mileage today and I got 35 miles per gallon on this tank and I dont baby it.  Cobras with the baffles in are not loud to me.  They sound similar to my friends Valk with stock headers, stacks and piggies cut.  I love my Cobras without the baffles.

I have drilled out rear baffles only and found it had a nice increase in perceived sound, but a noticable drone happened as well due to the stock tips. Put on Cobra tips which opened up the rear exhaust opening and no more drone. Got that nice stock snappy/growl to exhaust again!  cooldude Cobra pipes sound similar but louder to me, to each his own! Safe riding.

Sorry, don't have any input on re-jetting but it's something I'll be experimenting with as I've got to tune up my carbs  etc a bit anyhow.

Cobra 6 into 6 look and sound good BUT most herehave found that rejetting was necessary as well as the fact that since the Cobra pipes are not of equal length you will have uneven backpressure and a reduction in overall HP! Just want you to see the negatives as well as the positives Before you buy them.  tickedoff As far as the drilling out of the baffles go, why not just install a set of glasspacks? They sound good, don't need rejetting and actuallly provide a few extra ponies instead of reducing HP?
