Ok, I've asked this question before but didn't seem to get any responses so here it is.
I am going to replace my petcock. I am trying to decide which one. I'd like the functionality of the vacuum operated valve, but was wondering what others thought and why. Trying to decide between a manual pingle or a vacuum operated one. Any thoughts and why? I saw somewhere someone had a golan with a filter attatched?
Thanks
Jim

I'm still using the oem petcocks but it seems to me that at least some of the weaknesses of the oem would be shared by any vacume operated petcock.
I understand that Golan makes a petcock but the general wisdom of this board is that the Pingle is the way to go. Others will weigh in on that.
Golan also makes a high flow fuel filter which I do use. I have had no starvation problems while traveling much faster than the law allows. Golan claims filtration down to something like 6 microns I think.

Patrick, I am sold pretty much on a Pingle, but was wondering about the choice between manual and vacuum operated. I've read posts about switching from the oem but not much on the specifics of why vacuum vs.manual. I am concerned with my discipline in remembering to shut off the manual valve everytime. However, if there is a prevailing thought that the vacuum operated Pingle would be less than optimum or unreliable, I will go with the manual.
Thanks

another option is to go with the manual petcock and install the Dan Mark solenoid shutoff.

Jim,, I can't tell you a thing about the vacuum Pingle..  But,, I would think that it could eventually have a problem with its vacuum system..
I'm used to ' pre-flight/ post-flight ' checks,, so,, the fuel shut-off isn't much of a problem.. When the right hand heads for the key,, the left hand heads for the fuel valve.. It just becomes second-nature..

I just installed a "manual" Pingel in mine this year, and I LOVE it!!  I don't mind turning off my fuel the "old fashioned" way.  Not to mention getting rid of that huge cheap plastic "shutoff" knob that came with it, which no longer worked anymore, anyway............ Cool

I just ordered a Golan with the standard length reserve tube. Was going to get the extended tube model, but they admitted the filter screen on the extended tube won't fit into the Valk Std tank, and I didn't want to mess with an inline filter. Besides, I know when I need to start looking for a fuel station without needing to switch to reserve. I'm anxious to get it and get it installed.
