Hi Bob,

Do you mean Palo Duro Canyon near Amarillo?

It depends on where you are leaving from and when you plan on going. But Palo Duro Canyon is a unique experience. There is hiking, horseback riding, and a great musical in the evening during the summer.

The state park runs some old CCC cabins up there that are great place to stay...  you will have to reserve one though...

I used to take my students up there...

I hear Caprock Canyons is nice too...

Just a little panhandle music to get you in the mood...

I went their and enjoyed it.  Stayed in Amarillo and ate at the Big Texas Steakhouse where they have the 72oz steak challange, eat it in an hour and it is free.  Went on old Route 66 and Cadillac Ranch.  Below are some pictures I took of Palo Dure and Caprock.  I also saw on cable something about the Stockyards is a place to go if you like chicken fried steak.

When we went to Palo Duro we stopped at the Lone Star Bar and Grill to eat.  It is a hole in the wall but the steak was great.

Thanks for all the responses, links and pics.  I'll probably make my way with the wife sometime in mid to late March or early April.

I'm retired living in the Texas Hill Country right off of and in the middle of HWY 335 about 15 miles from Barksdale and/or Rocksprings.  I have had my 97 Standard since late 1996 and still just have not gotten tired of this bike.

Anyone every making the Hill Country HWY 335/336/337 Ranch Road loop area trip and looking for some company give me a heads up and I'll be more than happy to ride with you for a while....I'm only a couple of minutes away......

Thanks again for all the input.  All the input will shorten my learning curve when I finally get there.....
