Stude31, thanks for the report, as awful as the news is.  The good news is that he is alive and moving his legs. Post as often as possible - we're all here sending prayers up as hard as we can!

Dang... I have been on and off the board all day... and have not been to the general side and seen this.

Hate to hear about this... again.

Good vibes from Indiana too.  I will make sure Squealy knows too.

We'll be watching this thread with baited breath.

When I spoke to Lori, she said he had a subdural bleed (that is bleeding under the outer layer of the brain) and a concussion. He is consciousness, but in and out because of pain meds. He also has numerous facial fractures and several fractures in his left hand. They did not yet have the spinal CT results.  She was going to have a consultation with a neurosurgeon and an orthopedic surgeon.  He'll also need some plastic surgery on his face.

Apparently the crash was due to a low blood sugar incident (blood sugar was 48). The thought is that he either passed out or got dizzy and lightheaded because of the low blood sugar and crashed.  No other vehicles were involved.

Carl and Lori, you're very special folk to all of us. Believe it when I say Carl, you're lifted in prayer for total recovery, and strength for Lori. Special requests are made for wisdom and guidance on the part of the doctors involved.

Okay,

I just got home after visiting with Carl "Willow", he actually looks really good. (All things considered).  Not sure about the plastic surgery part but he looks much better than three hours ago.  Sounds ironic but he is able to talk and he has no memory of the accident or moments before.  He was wearing a Joe Rocket mesh jacket that the paramedics cut off of him.   Gunslinger and I took a closer look at the jacket and we both were rather impressed with how the jacket held up.  Carl has very little road rash on his upper torso, hands mostly and right shoulder blade but nothing significant.  Most of the road rash is on his right side of his face and chin.  He really wants that neck brace off of him but they won't take it off until tomorrow.

His legs look good (ankle down), they have him covered up (probably a good thing, I don't think I have ever seen Carl in shorts!!)

Lori is doing very well and family and friends have been super.  We live just a few miles from the hospital so it works out that she can stay with us.  I work just a half a mile from the hospital so I am not far from Carl and I work tonight.   My mom works in the surgery department so she will make sure he gets the best care.

Carl was riding the Green Interstate and I told him he needs to steer clear of those green valkyries (last accident, 5 yrs ago, was on a green interstate as well).

You can send Carl Holmes an email at Stormont Vail Hospital, he is in ICU room 219 and here is the link:

http://www.stormontvail.org/ssl/patientrep/email.html

I'm sure Lori would appreciate the encouragement, she is a strong lady and both have been dealt a few rough goes in the past five years.

I am so thankful that Willow is on the mend and will be back on here in the near future.  I told him about all of you and your well wishes and he agreed that we have an amazing VRCC family.

More to come but for now he just needs to rest and wait for the other test results as Connie mentioned earlier.

Gnats are really thick here at the moment hearing the relatively good news that Carl is awake and that his protective gear was effective.

Folks, let's get those nurses loaded down with positive messages like we did before.

Well hell, I've been working on the bike all day and I take a break to open up the forum and I get this? The entire family here is lifted up in prayer for your speedy and complete recovery. May HE that watches over all of us guide the hands of the doctors and nurses during your treatment and recovery. And may HE provide strength and comfort to you and Lori during this time.

I got a text from Lori and she said Carl had wrecked. The first thing I thought was a left hand turner. A little later f6gal called me and said that no other vehicles were involved and I thought low blood sugar because of his diabetes. Turns out it was very low. My father inlaw is diabetic and I have delt with his blood sugar more times than I care to remember. Scary stuff. Hang tough Carl. We are all pulling for you. Prayers from CO. Call if you need anything Lori.
